Tried to attach a pic. but no dice, but what I've got here is a Constant Torque hose clamp (says BREEZE on it) I bought from NAPA to do the PHH replacement with Silicon heater hose. It seems big (but indicates for 9/16" to 1 1/16" hose), so wanted to see if any of you all have used these clamps for this.

Haven't have any luck uploading pics., can't figure out if it's a firewall issue, file size is 688 KB... any suggestions?

Thanks for the input.

You need to reduce the size to less than 90KB. To do that download IrFanView (it's free).

I used clamps from MacMaster and they did look big. I bought the smallest ones available.

Wooo.. Hooo..,

Now, is it too damn big or not??

Our shall I post another pic.?

:)

Thanks,

Those are the ones....They will work fine....

I did the method of undoing only the one bolt on that preformed metal hose, twisted it out just a hare, lubricate the heck out of the new hose, even heat it in water, shove it ALL the way on the metal hose, rotate the hose back in line with the nipple on the block, and shove the hose back down the metal hose and onto the nipple...really fun....

Groovy.

What length hose did you cut? I've heard 2 1/4" and 50 mm (about 1 31/32). Both "seem" shorter than factory, although I haven't gotten up there and measured it yet.

FWIW, the clamps are $3.39 per at NAPA.

Thanks again.

Do you happen to have a actual Napa part # for that clamp? I figure I should do my PHH again, it looks bulging, even though I did it previously with Napa's top of the line hose...which I will never use again, that hose added atleast 4 hours to the job, not worth it!

What about a compression fitting, like for copper waterpipe, remove the PHH alltogether...hmmmm... :)

Later..

Mark,

The part number on the NAPA receipt says 705-1500 for the Constant Torque hose clamps.

Are you saying you used NAPA's Silicon Heater hose ($7.69/ft) before, and it was no good, cause that's what I've bought.

Thanks,

Mark Brodis,

You still with me here??

I'd really like to know if you've had bad experiences with the NAPA silicone heater hose.

Am I Hosed?? :)

Thanks,

I've got some spare super duty hose from EVCO...Paid like a pretty pennie for it too. It's a cool blue color with a red interior. I can't remember the exact specs, but the hose was rated far above anything the engine would produce. And the nice thing about it is it is very flexible and slipped right on. Anyway, I can ship you a piece if you want....just cover the costs. PM me if you (or anyone else) is interested.

That's exactly the stuff Simon and I used. Simon found it for cheap  at an outfit that services big trucks (or was it sells parts for big trucks ?). They just went out to the back of the shop and hacked off a chunk. I'd try poking around an industrial area that services big trucks/tractors.

It was blue outside and red inside as well. Very flexible. We heated it in boiling water and then used some dish soap on the inside (as per the "big guy").

Also agree with Photo-Cruiser and just pull one bolt and twist. There's other nipples :princess: I'd rather play with but it wasn't too bad. :bounce:

I've seen some posts with pictures of the hose you all are referring to. Here's a pic. of the NAPA hose. The silicone part looks like the hose you all've got IIRC, but it's sheathed with what looks like rubber hose instead of the more plyable material on yours.

Safado, thanks for the offer on the hose, but I think what I've got here should work fine... maybe a little harder to get in. I doubt this is what mkbrodis used. Who know's, maybe he had to many #6's and reached over and chunked off a peace of garden hose instead :).

What length hose did you all go with?

Thanks,

Rookie2,

(Since Mark hasn't jumped in yet...)
Mark used a red high temp hose from someone (NAPA?) It was very stiff and was NOT the green silicone hose that you pictured. Based on his reports on 80sCool back when he did the PHH, the hose he used had a red outer coating.

Thanks Beo-

I know exactly what hose you're talking about. I use it when putting the Prestone T in line with the heater core loop during coolant flushes. It's about $0.70/foot, and would make for a good garden hose.

BTW, for those that need to know, alot of the "satelite" NAPA stores don't stock the Silicone Heater Hose. I had to go to the local main hub store, although the satelite store could have ordered it for me.

Thanks again.

Regarding the length. We just removed the old hose and cut the new hose to the same length. I think we're over anaylzing this as usual.

Gotcha. Didn't know if because of the confined space and fit-up if you guys were going back in with something a little shorter than factory. Consider this thread closed.

No need to close this thread. I've been using it to pad my post count. I need to get to 1000 posts someday.

I don't know much and since Chit Chat doesn't count anymore, I need some threads that I can comment on

Naah, not this group. :flipoff2: We never over anal ize anything! :D Ohhh, and I never pad my post count with meaningless non tech nonsense, that would seem silly.

Mandatory tech content: That blue hose you used is a different color than the black hose I used!!! How's that pretty techy huh? Love to all as always!

Well so much for closing this thread :flipoff2:

So turbo... been meaning to ask, how stable is this rig with the speedo pegged?

Not that I could have that problem without the turbo and a larger set of balls.

In my opinion, super stable with several catches ... the first catch is that the top speeds require really smooth surfaces ( irregular surfaces are scary at speed ), the second catch is that the wind should be still ( large side surface areas with whipping winds are scary ), the third catch is that the top speeds require super straight, super visible, super isolated, sections of highspeed highway. These things are really required with any vehicle so I'm not trying to observe the obvious, its just that these trucks are trucks; the mass and the size and the shape and the center of gravity makes it rough to recover from mistakes and all these things also make minor motions seem more scary. When you are pushing them they will seem super scary compared to say a speedy mercedes run. When i lived in Germany, it was common for people to push through 115 mph for extended runs, 135 in a 560SEL or a 928S is like warping through a wormhole; you feel so fixed and so firm within the vehicle, you feel connected with the road but not bashed from it. With the crusher you are more like "oh s***, steady, oh s***, stable, oh s***, okay it pegged out, let's slow down." I'm exagerating some, it is stable, but let's just say the pucker factor was formidable, at least for my, well, never mind!!!
