It has been forever since I've been on here. My poor TLC has been sitting since I broke the engine (threw a rod in March of 2021). I have done zero to her. 190,000 original miles on the frame. Recently rebuilt the transmission and transfer case. I am going to need to buy a new vehicle pretty soon, which I think brings me to 3 realistic options:

1. sell her as is (the only broken parts are the engine and the A/C)
2. do a full LS swap (engine/transmission/wiring harness/and everything else - per the thread on here with play-by-play instructions) and sell her
3. do an LS swap (just engine with adapter to transmission) and keep her with the intention of completing the remainder of the work at a later date

If I sold her as is, what is a realistic number I could expect to see (in your opinion)? If I do the full swap and sell her, what is that realistic number? Option 3 is obviously my favorite. I do not want to sell her if I can avoid it, but if I can get a decent amount I may consider it. What do y'all think? I appreciate and value your constructive opinions. Thanks ahead of time!

P.S. - Is there an adapter that I can use to connect a chevy/gm motor to my existing transmission until I have the time, money and patience to complete the entire build? If there is, I may not sell her at all.

Get rid of it as is.
An engine swap is an immense job and your heart won’t be in it. You’ll likely be cutting corners at every chance- which likely will come back to bite you later.
Don’t discount the amount of energy and will power and time an engine swap requires. It’s a big undertaking.

My vote: sell the 62 as is and move on.

Thank you for your honest opinion. I really appreciate it! Do you know about what I'd be looking at getting? Several thousand at least?
 
A straight and rust free body will up the value more than anything else. Next would be condition of the interior. Need pics though, condition is everything

I will make you an offer if you send good pics.

I would be prepared for some really lowball offers. Just a ton of risk on a non running vehicle. Not being able to confirm the transmission and transfer case operation will be a huge concern for most buyers. If I was in the market this would be $2500 to $3500 offer and be located close enough to tow home. Again just my 2 cents and I am not a die hard cruiser guy so that could make a difference on what someone is willing to offer.

I have the AAMCO paperwork confirming the recent rebuild of the transmission and transfer case. My mechanic confirmed that only the engine was damaged when she threw the rod.
 
IMO, you’re in to deep $ wise on this truck. The rear quarter damage and engine failure really puts this one in the part’s truck category. But certainly could be fixed. I counted up about $5k-$6k in parts if I parted it out. No offense intended

If you want to keep the trans, t-case, bumpers, winch, which you have the majority of the $ invested in and sell that yourself, we might work something out.
 
I wouldn't remove any parts for any reason. I currently own this vehicle (title in hand) and a crappy Xterra. The plan is to get a new vehicle with a downpayment amounting to whatever I sell both of these for. I love this vehicle, but I will probably buy another one at a later date when time, money and patience are at an utmost. I've listed her on eBay. If I were to keep her, I probably would not fix the quarter panel because she would be a hunting/camping truck. I also have the original bumpers (located at my brother's house in NOLA) and he may still have the original wheels. That being said, I appreciate your honesty. That's the main reason I turn to this forum specifically when I have any pertinent questions. I take zero offense to what you've said. Let me pray about it to ask my higher power for guidance, since impulse decisions usually lead me into a bottle.
 
On another note, if I don't sell, I did find that the Mark's 713027-EK kit is $2700 and bolts directly to a Vortec or LS motor w/ wiring harness. I could get that, a decent motor and beg my mechanic to help me on labor. At least then she would run for around $4K. Something to maybe consider.

The concern is how long it has been sitting. Automatic transmissions do not like to sit idle. Not trying to be negative but those are the questions you might get. I think trying to get it running might be a better route.
 
Almost a year ago I froze my engine up when the temperatures dropped. I stubbornly made the decision to buy the tools and pull the engine to rebuild it.

At the moment I wish I had sold it as is in November and taken whatever I could get for it. I’m in deep now and I’m still working on it. It’s turned into more of a restoration project than an engine build. I’m enjoying myself for the most part but it’s not cheap and it’s much more work than I anticipated.

I’m certainly not doing it for monetary value or to save time. It’s not “worth it” but, neither is any other restoration project.

A day that will go down in infamy...Sept. 7, 2021. 2 years of sadness for this child.
