It’s 2024 and I’m looking for info on GMT800’s

I’ve had countless Toyota trucks (LC’s, GX, Taco’s, Tundra, etc). Something’s always drawn me to GMT800’s.

I also live in No Utah. Looking for a basic family camp rig. I have a Jeep for offroad trips. My teenage girls do not care to spend hours on a trail But do love camping. Hence my search for a GMT800. Although I’m also looking at the 1st gen Sequoias as well.

I don’t drive much (6-7,000 miles per year). So MPG isn’t a problem. Range may be, depending on where we go.

Also, garage size is an issue. I won’t be able to fit anything bigger than a Tahoe. So that’s what I’m looking for. Hoping with a full size roof rack and potentially hitch racks, I’ll have plenty of space.

How’s the 5.3’s? And especially the transmissions? I’m looking at a 2005 Z71. Looks to be in good shape.

Mods, I’ll keep it simple and just do a small lift to fit 33’s. We typically love heading to San Rafael Swells, Cap Reef areas. Maybe further south during the winter.

4l60e tranny is ok as long as you don't abuse it or add lots of power. 5.3 vortec pre-afm is a very solid motor. May deal with CEL on and off as some sensors seem to go more than others.

Personally I'd try to find a 2500 suburban; something with an Allison and 6.0 or 8.1 big block.

Unfortunately they never offered the allison in the 2500 suburbans. Just the trucks.
