I had been interested in the ARB side steps and we were discussing it in the Slee Slider thread...... The side steps are NOT sliders. I sent an email to ARB and asked them to ask the Australians what's up.... also sent the picture of the side steps getting whacked out of shape in the other thread. Here is the reply from ARB out of Australia:

The damage to your side steps is unfortunate and we would like to
clarify the design intent of our side protection products for you.

ARB side rails and steps are designed to protect vehicle sills and
fenders, protect against stone chips and other road debris and also
provide a step with treadplate for easier access to vehicles. They
offer good protection from vertical loads while also double as a side
attachment point for a high lift jack. They are tested to cope with
forces encountered when lifting the side of the vehicle with a high
lift jack as well as lateral loads such as encountering rocks or logs when
vehicles slide or move sideways on tracks.
Side steps may not be able to resist the full force of a vehicle
dropping from a few feet or more onto a rock or log with localised
loading on the frame member, even so, they will still offer a high
level of vehicle protection even when the force is excessive and damages the
frames.

ARB rock sliders are designed primarily for excessive force such as
landing on rocks and heavy engagement as vehicles slide over rocks and
logs in steep rocky terrain. They are intended to cope with loads
equal to and above half the vehicles weight. Their design strategy is quite
different from side steps
, they do not protrude as far out from the
vehicle, are usually attached with many more points to the chassis and
the sill area is reinforced to spread the forces of heavy encounters.

Hope this helps,

Their advertisement in their catalog shows the side steps encountering stuff, and basically promoting them 'almost' as sliders....

Snook, the photo which was posted is in the other thread. This here was just a reference to what was said about that occurance.

It's not that Australians can't make them, only ARB doesn't make strong sliders. Here's Moooooo's rig with Cheezy brand sliders and some Cheezy 80 series sliders.
