My local club has a 4 or 5 day trip so southern CO planned for next month. We've beaten the San Juans to death and would like to try another area. Any of you CO guys have a trail suggestion, maybe in the Buena Vista area? Or better yet an area to set a base camp and then do a different run each day?

Would have to be less-than-extreme stuff as we'll most likely have stockers.

Thanks in advance!

lots of little ghost town trails around that area to explore

Do the ghost town that RS did in trails. alpine tunnel area, tayor lake are has a ton of stuff.

We plotted the route in the TT write up but it looked heavy on driving time for us and light on wheeling.

Any recommended on-line or written resources for that area? I looked at a few 4WD guidebooks but the info was pretty spotty for that region.

Try one of the massey books on south central co

The tin cup, pitkin, st. elmo has a bunch of trails

Cumberland pass, tincup pass, tomichi pass, alpine tunnel road, old monarch pass, black sage pass, waunita pass, marshall pass and a host of spurs.

Most of it is light wheeling and scenic but stuff like hancock is more difficult as well as others. Iron chest??

My favorites are still in the west elk. schofield, pearl, taylor, etc.
