I know about a year ago they were looking at closing it off or atleast the property owner was not allowing anyone to access the coke ovens and I was wondering if that is still the case today. If it is not I was wondering if anyone would like to head out 10/18 and do a little wheeling to the coke ovens.

TTBOMK, the owners have closed the ovens proper at the gate. But one can still drive out to within about 1500' of them, and see them.
And you can still cross the river just past the gate.
None of that is really 4wheeling, tho. Just a long, scenic drive along a dirt road.
But there's a lot of options out there.

What a bummer. Any other suggestions of a challenging trail for a FJ62 OME Heavy with 33x12.50's and a FJC with OME mediums and stock tires?

You seem to have missed this part of my reply:

:)

There's Mini Moab, Hackberry, others. I've only explored a small portion of that area. Others have explored more and can make suggestions of their own. Bman? Tools? Bluesdog?

Telegraph Canyon for an easy run - after Ajax Processing plant you can drop into the creekbed and play on the rocks.
OR
Go in at cottonwood Canyon and do the box to martinez turnoff - same as going to Coke Ovens - but continue on to Martinez Cabins and back out thru the Box Canyon.
OR
Just go in and play on Woodpecker and Lower Ajax trails...
OR
Montana Mountain on the other side of the 60?

To mention a few options in FJ/Superior area

This time a year is the perfect time to Ride the Gila from Price Road into the Ovens via the west river crossing. That railroad trstle is awesome!

Then exit via Box. FUN!

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. I think the Martinez Cabin sounds like a winner.

Post up a meeting time and place and people might even show up.
Martinez and I have unfinished business, so I may join you.

If you have unfinished business with the "Canyon Loop" you need to settle down. :D

Rover buddies did a pre-run Sunday before their Rally. Leo in his D90 said the Luge Bypass was so washed out that they all had to turn around and return the same way. LONG day.

Hmmm, I like long days...

News to me. Got a link?

EDIT: Never mind, couldn't see your link in this font color.

No idea when that happened, but it's been coming for a while.

The little stone building was down when we were there in the spring. One wall fell or someone pushed it over a couple of years ago, it's been slowly collapsing. Though maybe you were referring to the big cabin, that big tree has been pushing on it for years, it's way out of square.

It's strange that the only thing I could find was that one photo of it and nothing else. Very surprised no one else posted on here or anywhere else about the building collapsing. Anyone have any maps, tips, tricks, etc. of going from the south through Box Canyon (need to redeem myself from about a year ago having BMan pull my sagging arse over one spot), to Martinez Canyon, and then out?

The Backcountry Adventures book lays it all out. Many of us have copies if you don't. The Gazeteer and Recreational are helpful, too.
Aside from Coke Ovens, Little Moab and the Martinez/Box Canyon complex, it's been a few years. My memory is fuzzy.

its a shame the cabin is going, no matter the cause.

the luge bypass is pretty bad, you have to be willing to risk it if you wanna run it. about halfway down i got into a bit of a slide but the erosion leaned me into the bank instead of letting me come around sideways.
shotts, where i started sliding was the bad area your buddy was prolly referring to, it wasnt too scary though as there is a catch there and you just kinda follow it down on your doors till the bottom and it rights you again, believe it or not my cruiser is even uglier down the driver side now.

Not exactly. He said it was impassable. He is planning on going back with heavy duty gear and help in order to do a trail repair. If Leo could have ran it he would have. One of the top 2 best drivers I've ever seen. Joe Chott is #1.

Here's Leo's posts:

Mike,
Highway to Hell would not be nice to any vehicle with a rear overhang. I'm thinking about going back to Martinez Canyon and doing some trail repair at the Luge bypass. Dan Bolander has a portable electric jack hammer that I can run off of my Power Welder. Brandon and Jayson have offered to help as well. Schedule is the driver to do this. I'll let you know if we can work this.

Leo

We pre-ran Martinez Canyon yesterday and found it to be tougher than when we ran it earlier this year. The luge was so washed out, it was not passable and forced us to return from where we started. We will have to find a substitute for this trail for the rally.

That's a bummer that it's washed out that bad. Was looking forward to checking it out.
