Maybe sum old Monroe air shocks too, like off an old cougar. :meh:
 
no no no lol Im getting coilover shocks from foa and i was seeing what others had ran as far as spring rates go
 
I couldnt tell ya on spring rates for a 40, sorry.

But I run FOAs on my on my 85 toy truck and Im not very impressed with them.

For the cost I would rather have used Kings, Foxes, SAWs, Billys first.

I am just replacing some tube thats been hamburgers too many times and have the rear shocks unbolted and I noticed the resi can leaking on one of them.

I never could get the upper adjustment clamps to tighten up, but with enough dirt and grime in the acme threads they finally stayed put.

I had my machinist make a few lower cups that have a bolt to clamp/tral them cuz I got tired of lower cups working out on the trial.

etc. etc.

They work OK but are priced like a celica cuz they dont perform like a lexxus.:cheers:
 
i've got 200/250 in the front and 175/250 in the rear, and my rig weighs 3900......if you can get your corner weights then call foa or poly perf. they should be able to give you a good recomendation on what weights to use

Your question is too open-ended to be able to give you a good answer, as I've seen 40's weigh anywhere from 3500-6000.

You really have to get corner weights, or at least front and rear axle weights. Then you can guesstimate your unspring weight, and be in the ballpark.

Kinda like how you don't just stick some bars under there and call it a 4-link, there's some engineering that needs to be done.
 
thanks for all the info, I dont have corner scales but I may know some dirt track people who have them. Ill have to finish the build and then order springs.

You also have to factor in how and where the coilovers are mounted. Are they vertical or angled? Near the end of the axle or closer to the center? That will make big difference in the spring rates.

Make sure the vendor will allow you to return the springs if they don't work out.

links aren't rocked science .. but you need to keep few lines in mind. One of 'em it's what work in my build may not work at all in yours .. so saying I'm using 300 over 225 means nothing.
