well i'm putting coils under the landcruiser(FJ 73) and using the current diffs, the qeustion is can the drag link stay in front of the axle or does it have to go behind.

Cheers
Thommo

depends on where you mount the coils.

It's tight, but it can be done. The only rubbing I have is on my sway bar slightly touching my Y-LINK bars. I still need to cut it down a few inches. I'm extremely satisfied with the conversion. Tie rod is prebent (to clear pitman arm swing) 1 1/2" 1/4" wall DOM. I'm using 4" TJ coils/ 1 3/4" 1/4 wall DOM & 3/4" cromo rod ends:

Your track bar is going the wrong way

Unless you wanna crawl under my rig & see if there's any other way to mount it, I'm all open to suggestions. On road or off it preforms really well as is - barely any side to side movement until you let the limit straps go.....

History of conversion

Hi - Do you have photos/description posted somewhere?

Also, I may need to post a new thread for the following question unless someone knows of an existing one.

I am about to get a FJ45 battlewagon - about a '68 - that has a blown 13B in it. I plan to put in a 14 or 15B-T as they seem to be very available here. This will help with our 8400' altitude here :0)

I would like to get in contact with someone who has done a full swap - pulling out the old axle and putting in a Fj70 or better series front end - power steering, disc brakes, coil suspension, etc. This is not for high speed - it is for cobblestone (at best) roads and off-track running. Once in a great while I might make it to somewhere I can do 110 k/h (65mph).

I have the option to leave the suspension alone for now and just replace the engine, but am thinking about going whole hog. I'm looking for someone that has experience/a write up on doing this to a 40/45 series.

he bent the Tie rod for clearance, not as an aftereffect of hitting a rock ;)

Thats what I figured... just thought i would ask. Seemed too obvious to be worth mentioning if it wasn't "special"...

Bent 1.5" .25 wall tie rods hold up? I'm kinda suprised...

I have a bent 1.5" .250 wall dom one that was not intentional ;)

You ever held a piece of 1/4" wall & compare it to a stock & straight tie rod? ;p I have full confidence the knuckles will desentigrate before that tie rod bends by any force my steering can throw at it. It's either that or full hydro & there's NO WAY I'd ever do full hydro on those small pattern knuckles  I have a fully plated set of knuckles I'm throwing on before GSMTR ;)

I have 1.5x.25" Tie and relay rods ;) I made them after I snapped a stock tie rod.

know it's heavy stuff, but I've watched friends bend it on the trail.

I want to see your knuckles at GSMTR... did you check them for warpage after welding the plates on?

What sized tires & steering setups were your friends trucks running? Are they DOM? I still say I will not bend mine due to steering forces ;p Warpage on cast knuckles? All I added was some 1/4" plate welded intermittently, not all at one time. I brought them to one of past meetings, I guess you weren't there:

I haven't done a writeup but I'd think the pics in my sig ('73 FJ40) can help with *most of your questions ;) I've never seen an FJ70 coil setup, so no advice there. It can't be that much different than a TJ's setup though & that's basically what I referred to setting mine up. PM me if you have any particular questions, I'll be happy to assist :grinpimp:

What will this do for you? I haven't seen any actual knuckle failures, just a bunch of hi-steer arm studs and a few steering stop 'tabs" broken off..

Not baiting or anything (I'm not Mace :flipoff2: ), just curious..

Really nice looking job at any rate!

Do you now the spring rate for +4 TJ coils?... is confortable and suitable for faster speed ??....

Thanks!.

That is entirely dependant on who made the coils..

I run stock TJ coils in the back of my rig and am very happy..

Uhmm, i want use WildHorse EB progressive coils in the front of my FJ40. But i not sure. They have stock coils (rate: 200/300), 2.5" prorunner (rate: 240/375 ) and 3.5" rockcrawler coils (rate: 204/375). What do you thing about this ?...I like the 2.5" prorunner coils...
