Rob is planning on driving. I will talk to Andy and see if he is still in.

Great, we still need one more truck for the trailer and if we don't get another big truck driver it will take an extra day to get there and back.

Saw Andy Saturday night and he's definitely in, have a couple ideas for filling the 4th trailer spot but will need to discuss later.

What's the plan for return trip departure date? I have the 4th as the westbound trip start date, but how many days are we actually going to wheel?

My plan is to be start down (southeast from here) Friday night, 2 Oct, and be there ready to wheel NLT Sunday night, 4 Oct. At the bare minimum I think we need to plan for wheeling M-F. For me, Saturday could still be a wheeling day since I'll have Monday, 12 Oct - Columbus Day - off as a travel day already. Originally I planned to take two whole work weeks off for this trip, but I don't think anyone else has that idea???

As i recall the plan is to leave TN on Oct 3 and arrival for Oct 4 in the evening, obviously that part remains to be seen per above infoand may fluctuate by a day or so. Then wheel the entire week+ a couple extra days, call it 8-9 days of trail riding then depart Oct 14/15th so Robs daughter could be back in school on Monday.

Now, all that could just be just a bunch of random words if we all break our junk on the 3rd day. :flush:

Not to :deadhorse: but we need to fill that 4th trailer spot for budgeting reasons.

We are looking at 24 hrs driving time without any issues. Without a second driver we are looking at 2 + full days to get there.
Ted did you talk to Rocky about going on the 4 car?
With the time and expense to get there and back I would like to wheel for at least 8 days cruiser willing.

Rocky didn't make it but was our 1st idea too, held off as we weren't sure if you wanted to try to fill the co-driver spot first. Haven't talked to him yet but extended the offer a few mins ago per your post. This option helps in other ways too.

Obviously this would put too many folks in your truck but that we can figure out.

Is Henry still planning on taking his truck and camper, thought plan was for him to haul extra people.
Talked to Rob, he is 50/50 on being able to make it, said if dates need to be moved to accommodate others to go a ahead and change them.

As far I am concerned the dates are good but that's just me. Don't know about Henry. Heard from Rocky this morning, he wants to haul his own junk so we still have 1 spot open.

I don't know any of y'all boys nor do y'all know me. I'll just assume none of you have pulled all nighters behind the wheel. Some of y'all maybe long haul truckers that do it all the time, or all of y'all may work banker hours and never work 3rd I don't know. But trying to push through the night with a guy thats never been forced to stay awake is a disaster in the making. Ive been on call for 18 years as an engineer on the RR traveling to Atlanta. It takes a very seasoned guy to stay awake all alone all night long. Its still a struggle for me on a weekly basis. Don't just pass the wheel because he been so called resting. Stay awake with him, talk to him and help each other stay awake. The closer it gets to day light the harder it gets. Don't let the want and excitement to get there keep you from making a smart decision to stop for a nap. Even with a train its scary how fast you can fall asleep, i thank God it steers itself. I just want to see y'all have the time of your life and come back to your families the same way you left. Dean

Not to get off track from the current discussion about the haul, but we also need to discuss the first destination of the tow rig(s). I don't know if it has been discussed much by anyone other than me and Ted, but 21Rd in Fruita, CO. is on the list to do. Very generally speaking, 21Rd is ~30 miles inside Colorado and Moab is ~30 miles inside Utah. 21Rd could be done as a day trip in the middle, but that'd be a lot of strapping, loading and unloading in a single 24-hr period. My thought has always been to meet there first, wheel the day, then head to Moab that evening together.

21Rd get progressively worse as you get further in though, so not all of the rigs could go the whole way I don't think. We'd have to see how far everyone got - or is willing to go - and decide how to proceed.

First I have heard of this. My plan was to take I-40 to NM then turn north to Moab, don't want to pull the grade on 70 with 4 car, so this is not on the way.

That's understandable. We can go ahead and meet at Slickrock Campground in Moab and go from there. Might work out that only a few want to go to 21Rd anyway. We can load up those few on my 3-car plus individuals that want to tow on their own, and take a day to go over there. I'm sure we're going to be in separate groups for many of the runs anyway.

GoogleMaps shows it to be about two hours to get there one way. If we load up the trailer the night before and roll out of camp around 0700-0800, we could probably still be back for dinner that night.

Just a little motivation for everyone.

Roger, your route is correct. I think Steve is referencing a side trip from Moab. My opinion is that a week in Moab will give everyone exactly what we are looking for with out adding more logistics. Up for debate! I'm planning on coming in some capacity. I may be dragging my junk from Denver Co. (I will be helping my oldest son relocate there sometime between the end of July till mid August.)
My Major problem is my Passenger spring hanger was torn loose @ Gsmtr, and I need help fixing it, before the first week of August if I'm going to drag it with me. Or I could leave it at your Ranch, and it could go on the trailer to Moab possibly one way, (I would drive my truck and camper from Denver) , or round trip, If I have to return to Atlanta before Oct. Is hunters spring over done yet??? Or any other prospects for getting my cruiser fixed on the cheap.

One last scenario: I can ask Tate if he's interested in going, and or My Ecorrs Buddy Marc Zabboth

Henry
Yes we finished Hunters spring over and no I don't have time right now to do another. Fixing a broken spring hanger is a couple hour job if the frame is ok.
Hauling a truck one way is unfair to the other guys as we a sharing expenses. We do need to fill the 4th spot.

is it october yet?
Well that's a good sign that Andy is going!

I have LOTS of work still to do and time is flying by (I'm sure I'm not the only one). Gotta keep the rig together through another few wheeling trips before Moab too.

Filled up the tow rig today. $300 in diesel to top off all four tanks and I might actually have enough to get me through my next two trips AND Moab.

Roger or Dean, are the gas prices in Moab really high since it's pretty secluded and a small town? I have a 40G fuel cell from a boat that I'm thinking about mounting to my trailer somewhere so I won't have to pay exorbitant prices.
