Nope. That's what I'm trying to get people to sit down and talk about. If nothing gets locked down soon, it'll fizzle out just like it did last year. Planning for travel, rig shipping, open seating, trails, lodging, airport ferrying, food, money to set aside, vacation requests, etc, etc, etc, all need to be WELL underway by the six-month-out point if you ask me. That point is mid April. So if there's nobody committed by then, I'm going to go ahead and plan it by myself and just wait and see if anyone shows up. I've got a handful of local Jeep guys that are pining to go with me so I may just have to plan it with them.

Notwithstanding the above, has anyone talked to Roger or Spanky or any other shippers for possibilities in that avenue?

I'm i but i assume you know this already. The only question on my end is what format does my trip take? Do fly out and ride bitch or do I haul my junk all the way out there or some other "preferred" method.

Spanky has gone underground, tried him a couple of times in the fall via email with no answer so don't know what his story is. I'd like to get several folks on board including our other misplaced western buddy but it just aint getting the traction I'd hoped, even eluded to it the other day n the TN page.

With SCC being October 7-11, I think we have good reason to push it into late October. One of the last two weeks in October is likely to work out better for anyone needing a tow. So sometime between 18 & 31 October I say.

Yes, all the big players will be there and it WILL go down this time!! Even if we have to skip W.R. Okay, maybe that's going a little too far. haha

I saw some video of one of the Alaska trips and that looked like so much fun. I think this one would be too rocky for me. Anyone thought of British Columbia, we could check out some of the old gold mines and see if there is any paydirt!

I think an Alaska trip would be right up your alley Andrew. Just have to make sure you get with a like-sized group. I know Roger's group traverses some mud, snow and water that are all quite deep.

I'm heading to B.C. to go wheeling in a few months. Although where I'm headed is a lot like the upper section of Rattle Rock at Windrock; There are VW-sized rocks everywhere.

Primitive camping is going to run us about $25 per day and there are several locations to chooss from near downtown. That said, if we can get enough ppl we can rent a 3 bedroom house for about $100-$200 a day.

If camping, I recommend Slick Rock campground, they have been the most offroad friendly.
Another issue to consider is that you must drive on the road to get to the trails, some as far as 20 miles, trucks need to be tagged and appear to be street legal.

well that'll make me get serious about hooking up with Jynx, he's got a tranny for me and I just need to find a way to make him happy so I can get it.

Is there an option for towing to the trail heads?

As I recall There are some you could take a pick up and trailer but none I would take the 4 car and there are several trails that you don't come out where you enter.

Tranny for what; the crawler? What's wrong with yours? I have one sitting at my shop right now... way up here where it does you no good. Haha
I think I'm gonna hold on to it for a possible future use anyway.

damn right!!! Now to make my rig streetable which includes turn signals, tags and ability to do 20 mile stretches of black top, this oughta be interestin'. Guess my build thread will be getting some updates in the coming months.

Good to see this thing is going to materialize, do your self a huge favor and order the Charles A. Wells Guide to Moab newest edition. Its a great read with all the info you need about every trail there is.

I wouldn't stress to much about those things, i mean if you have the time sure but just acting responsible, stay slow through town and they won 't hound you at all. 20 miles of black top would prob out to BFE and back. Have your cooling system in check also, its a long climb out of town and things can get warm quick. I think the elevation doesn't help things either.

all good info, Thanks. I've been reading about the street legal "issue" and everything I've read echos your comments, be cool, drive responsibly and you should be fine.

20 miles in my rig should be interesting but I think it'll do it. Top speed is probably around 45 but no speedo keeps me guessing. I guess once the new tranny is in I'll grab the GPS and giver 'er a go.

I hate wheeling with doors, whats the rule of thumb on having doors while driving the black tops?

Area BFE is on the list of things to hit. While I've never been a few of the others have so I'll be leaning on them hard for trail recommendations. We all have similar rigs and driving styles so I've started poking around and starting a short list of trail just can not be missed. The book is a good idea.

During big events like Ejs you need to be on your p's and q's because they are strict about all the things you mentioned. Most of the rigs don't have doors that are running around. I really enjoyed my half doors. A nice arm rest, cup holders, storage all kinda options. I may have a set of doors for a 3rd gen if you wanna build some.
