just a friendly reminder that as we get into the heating season, please, please, please put a carbon monoxide detector in your house. It wouldn't be a bad idea to put one in the garage either. I deal with family members that are suffering long term effects from carbon monoxide poisoning due to one dose of it 12 years ago.

I was changing out the smokestack on the furnace this year after realizing it was getting to the point of being almost see through. It wasn't to the point of filling the crawlspace up with CO, but who knows, maybe later this year it would've...

I saw a disturbing consumer report a few years ago where they compared and tested CO detectors from major brands and found something like 85% failure rate. There were a couple of recommended brands that worked well - but I can't recall which ones. Anybody know a good consumer comparison website that might have info that is reliable??:hhmm:
