hey guys . newbie here, so i would just like to thank everbody here for inspiring me to build my own off road camper.. i have been lurking on here for ever , never posting, just watching and gathering ideas, here is my story ( and im sticking to it ).. sooo. after drooling over some of the trailers i have seen here, i set out and found myself a m1o1 wich i felt was in pretty decent shape . this is the day i brought it home

it was puchased from a colector about an hour north of toronto he had about 16 at the time. i had the trailer about 8 months before i could start workin on it.. any way first step was spring over change the hubs and 33's to match the jeep

next step was to enlist the help of my fabricator buddy and then we built a lid, racks, new fenders. and tailgate , it is now copmlete enough that we will be testing it out this weekend may 24 i have tons of pics but i will not bore you with all the little details cuz youve seen em before .. as soon as i can sell my pop up ,the plan is a rtt.. either the globe trotter or myway serengetti trouble is i havn't found a canadian dealer yet . if im gonna spend 3 grand on a tent i surely want to see one first.. any way this is how it looks competed so far

soooo.. i am pretty pleased with the way it has turned out so far. there will be lots of little add ons as i figure out what i need you know jerry cans , water tanks, propane , solar power , yadda yadda.. thank you to all you trailer guys who i have been watching for a long long time.. you have trully inspired me and thanx to my buddy randy for the use of his shop cuz i couldnt have done it without him....

thank you .. i treid to keep the look as original as i could and re-used any parts that i could.. the drop leg i kept but only extended it . the grab bars that attached from the tounge to the box i re-used as well .. i had to cut them down but now the serve as the supports for the front of the fender.. the fenders are very strong i can jump on em no problem. then with some round bar made some to match at the rear ..

thanx again pat ,, i have been watching your build right from the beginning.. and you got some very cool ideas as well .. by the way ?? how far is beacon ny from niagara falls??

Thx Bryan, I really think the rear tub support is a homerun, seems that when a tailgate is cut into the tub, that would be the weaklink, the way the brackets come off of it, it must solid as a rock. Great match with the tow rig.

Beacon is about 6 hours away from your area.
 
The trailer looks fantastic. I've never seen fenders done that way before but I love it!

thanx .. we thought long and hard about those fenders .. decided that one peice was the way to go.. they are pretty strong and give me room to mount jerry cans and propane and stuff , i can climb all over them ( 180lbs ) and they dont move
 
NICE WORK!!!! Can you give us a couple more pics of how you did the tailgate?? What did you make your lid out of...Steel or aluminum? It looks great
 
The contour lines on that lid really complement the shape of the trailer..
Those fenders are a nice design...
 
That looks REALLY nice! I need a set of those fenders... and that lid...!

sorry for the delay .. i have been waaay to busy ..

yes the lid is steel .. bent in one piece ,then welded on the ends,and roof racks,with a support bar underneath.. if you can wait till next week i will get you some pics of the tailgate . basically welded 2'' square tube on the inside and out the bottom then plasma cut the tailgate out . inside the 2'', is a longer length of 1 1/2 with holes drilled out every 3'' welded a nut on the end ,and on the inside of the 1 1/2 is a length of acme threaded rod welded to another nut and a 6'' dia round plate.. about 12'' long so you can screw em in and out.. you get where im goin here... so the outside frame is tied in and doubles as my rear stabilizers.. simple but effective.. im leaving tomorow for a few days of wheeling and camping i'll get your pics as soon as i return... thanx
 
ya i think the lid turned out pretty good .. i chose to mount it on the end cuz i seen a few that were havin problems with the side of the trailer flexing with having a tailgate , and a side mounted lid.. im thinkin the front end of the trailer is a lot stronger and shouldnt pose any problems... time will tell i guess..
 
Nicely done, now you just need to get a Land Cruiser to go with it! ;)
 
I don't really say this very often but I really like everything that you have done to your trailer. It looks awsome. Alot of trailers you can tell that they have been added to. Yours is so clean that if someone wasn't familiar with the M101 they wouldn't know all of the work done to it. I really like those fenders. I think that the only upgrade I would do is to give it to me so it can be pulled by my 40. HeHe

i was wondering when somebuddy would notice .. yes its a jeep. bought my first xj in 1986 drove it 10 yrs and 300,000 the xj i have now is a 1995 .. 350,000 and runs perfect i beat the crap out it and it has never let me down, so you can see it would be hard to change.. if i ever get tired of the jeep thing a cruiser would be at the top of the list..
