Cant figure out exaclty what that screeching noise is, but when the engine goes to about 2500+ rpm, there is a noise and sometimes a smell. this lets me only go about 55mph. is it the clutch? it cant be the engine.
sorry for non descrip info, what else should i look for to single this one out?

Brunt rubber smell?

sounds like a belt,

If it was your clutch it would probably "slip" and your tack would shoot up and the rig slow down.

Clutch slippage .. is evident and no error recognizing it .. you feel your engine at most arp at low speed .. gear in 4 o 5th speed and acelerate, you feel that and the smell like a brake shoes .. asbesto smell ( I'm not sure if is the right translation for asbesto )

doesnt seem like it was the belts, but i guess it would make sense to tighten them again anyway. I will try the test of starting in third, to see if the noise and smell is evident.

how many miles do you think this clutch might have?

clutch test:

rolling at about 15mph
tranny in 4th, with left foot on clutch pedal(to the floor)
tach the motor to about 2000-2500rpm
pop the clutch.

this works best after everything is up to operating temps.
if the clutch is ok, the motor will bog almost instantly upon the release of the clutch pedal.
if the clutch is slipping, and this is not black or white:
if it's just starting to slip the rpms will not drop right away, but do drop.
if it's on it's last leg the rpms might not change at all.
