ok v8 is in and while i was trying to find a good muffler shop around i got bored and painted my truck. well i went to get in and move it for the first time and i cant get it into gear. get the wife to push tle clutch pedal and i can watch the clutch fork move but it doesn't seem to be enough. its a 1987 fj60 with an 88 tbi 350 and the ranger torque splitter and using advances mount for the slave cylinder. is there some adjustment i am missing or do i need a new slave cylinder rod. and is there a normal amount of movement to measure for the clutch fork. well thanks everyone

Are you using the stock '87 slave rod? if so it is non adjustable and you'll need to get one from a 4/'85 or earlier that is.. or one from a 40 series.......

i have a very similar setup to your rig (crate 350, ranger OD) and i've had clutch issues since day one. i measured the distance that the slave cylinder was moving the clutch fork (about 1"). that's very close to my other stock fj60 so i've figured it's working correctly. these are my symptoms. at startup in the morning shifting is pretty stiff and quickly (within a minute or so) starts getting easier. if i'm in city traffic using the clutch a lot, it becomes harder and harder to shift. there seems to be a connection to how many times i press the clutch in. if i get stuck in stop and go traffic where i'm on the clutch the whole time, it can become almost impossible to shift. not sure if any of this helps, but if you want me to look at something or test something out for you, i'd be glad too.
