A year ago I followed a tip from this forum to adjust my slave cylinder rod on my clutch to buy a little more life out of the clutch. Now the time has come for a new clutch but my manual does not mention a thing about adjusting the slave rod. Could explain to me what the proper adjustment should be with a newly installed clutch?

Thanks!

You must have an older model 60. Pre '84 1/2?
Later models don't have adjustable slave rods.

Barring any info. from the FSM or others, after you've hooked up the return spring, I would say to adjust the rod only to the point where there's positive contact to the fork and yet the hydraulincs are "at rest". Check the pedal freeplay. Then go for a test drive, and then make any further adjustments necessary.
Anyone else?

My 40 guide says 3/16" freeplay at the pedal and at the end of the slave...

I wonder what would the resulting performance would be if an older slave cylinder was used on an 86? The engine in mine was replaced with a used 2f but still using my tranny. So everything is kinda mixed up. The clutch acts whacky sometimes almost like it has a life of it's own, going in and out of adjustment, of course that could be said for the rest of the 60. I sure would like to get it normal.

Thanks for the info gentlemen.

I am hoping that when I disassemble I can still tell by the wear and grime on the threads where the original adjustment was as well.
