Hi everyone,
I noticed some fluid "seepage" from the boot on the clutch master cylinder today on my 1987 FJ60. I think it may have also dripped a bit as well. I assume that no amount of seepage is acceptable, correct?
If I replace it, I assume that for good measure the slave cylinder should be changed as well correct? Also Aisin is the OEM part for the master and slave correct?

Thanks,
Zack

Definitely do both at the same time. Nothing like bleeding the slave twice when it goes 2 weeks later.

Also the clutch pedal seems fine, with the correct amount of resistance.

So the m/c is bad then? Any amount of seepage is not good, correct?

I have seen worse. Mine lasted another few years like this. Just make sure your fluid levels are maintained. When mine went I replaced both the master and slave with Toyota parts.

I would say yes, toast. I would not want any leakage, especially brake fluid on paint.

The seepage will leave an annoying drip on your carpet/mat, and maybe your shoe. Replaced both and it was a one :banana:job. Rock Auto has both AISIN components relatively cheap.

Yes,yes and yes you don't want to get surprised by a failure while driving in traffic it sucks when the pedal drops to the floor board and you are stuck in traffic.
Plus the brake fluid eats the crap out of the paint.

Ditto what everyone has said. You can drive it like this for a while... I drove mine for a winter like this and in hind site I should have just replaced it. It's a super easy job. I forgot about the leak for a couple days and after snowboarding one day I go to start my truck and i had no clutch. Luckily I had some extra brake fluid....
To answer your question more direct though, yes your master cylinder is failing. It needs replaced. Do the slave at the same time.
