I am going to bite the bullet here and commit to Moab the week of Memorial day 2009. I think Norm is in as well. Tim can we count you in, we will figure out how to get you there if I have to drag you over the Rockies myself. I will even follow you up if you want so you will not feel "rushed" merly "pushed".
John Embry are you in? If not is your trailer for rent? We can work out the details.

Anyone else want to go?? Bloo? Remember now we are going to "share the wealth" so everyone should be able to afford it :) This is open to non-club members as well.

Think about it and lets post up and start making plans. Check out the "big horn lodge" for lodging, very reasonable for the price, centrally located, can walk to all resturants and bars/breweries and even grocery store, gas right across the street. This is where I stayed last time.

The later date in June might work, I need to see what Mary Marshalls horse scheduale is and she needs to put in for time off work.

later june would be a possibility for me....memorial week won't work - we're already heading down to OBX.

as long as y'all don't mind me crashing as a non-member.

If the club (and BK) are going to do this, I'm in. TX will be out though. We can figure out trucks & trailers later.

Saw this on the Moab Chamber of Commerce Calendar:

May 28-31
5th Annual Desert Rocks - Four days and four nights of music, camping, and outdoor adventure in the majestic red rock canyon of Kane Creek, 8 miles West of Moab. The festival will include an eclectic mix of funk, rock, reggae, folk, and bluegrass music playing through sunrise. For more info check out www.desertrocks.org.

Not sure if this is reason to go over Memorial Day, or avoid it! :skull: :smokin:

Tim, see post #20 already covered it. BK you are more than welcome to come along!

This is where I stayed before: Big Horn Lodge|Hotel|Motel|Accomodations|Moab Utah Lodging|Moab Motel|Moab Hotel|AAA|Reservations|Moab Reservations Central location in town. List price is $100.00 for two, per night for a room with two queens, fridge, tv, ect. $5.00 per person extra per night. pet friendly also. Most of the big name hotels are on the outskirts of town about 1 mile away which means you mostly drive everywhere to eat, drink ect. These rooms exit out to a covered walkway and the downstairs rooms have parking right out front. There is also bus parking and spots large enough for a tow rig and single trailer. Long trailer parking is out on the street, but safe, speed limit is like 25mph.

I need to call back and speak to a manager to get the group rates/discounts. I will do this once we get a better head count on how many are going.

Ok guys I called and talked with the manager: Here are the new rates, These rates are based on 5 night stay.

If we book 5 rooms cost is $79.95 per night plus taxes ect.

If we book 10 or more rooms the cost drops to $69.95 per night plus taxes ect.

These rooms have 2 queen beds, bath, cable tv, fridge, micro wave ect. They do have a pool and hot tub as well on site.

OK GUYS DATE IS SET FOR MOAB!!!

***MARCH 23-27, 2009*** these are the dates we plan to be there to wheel and see arches national park. Figure out how you are getting there and when you need to leave. It is about 33-36 hours straight through of actuall driving time, depending on what you are driving.

PUSH, PULL, OR DRAG YOUR RIG OUT THERE! THIS IS ONE TRIP NOT TO BE MISSED!

some people expressed camping, or staying in cabins, I will look into this but I plan on staying at Big Horn Lodge. People can stay where they wish and we can meet up each morning. I will recheck on rates for the hotel.

I know we all talked this past weekend, check and see and then post up if you can make it and we will figure out how to get everyone out there.

**there is a big bicycle event the 3rd week, so I do not think we will want to be out there with all those road and mountain bikes**

*Weather for that time of year is high 60's to low 70's for daytime highs and mid 30's to 40 at night.*

So who's definitely in?

I am definitely going. I plan to pull the IPOR tandem with the IPOR F250 and pull my FZJ40(I hope!) and Ben's 55. (Ben is a friend in CO who's truck we're working on - I will be delivering it to him in Moab)

Rich is definitely going, and plans to drive out and take Ben's place on the tandem on the way back.

I just talked to John Embrey and he can't make it but confirmed that his tandem is available for our group to use. Rob Matzel and Scott Simmons are both definitely in and have both offered to pull it - you two should work out between yourselves who's pulling and who's riding. All that John has asked is that it be returned in the same condition - to me this means that you two should do pre-trip maintenance, post trip maintenance and any repairs needed.

That's all the group trailer space we have confirmed as of right now.

John is going to check on the 3 car wedge. If it's available the same rule will likely apply to the trailer - maintain/fix/return. As far as a tow rig goes the only person I know of who has offered to pull a triple is Cam. I have no problem paying maintenance, wear and depreciation on the IPOR F350 for the trip, but in return would like for the other two riders to split fuel. The MPG difference between pulling a double vs a triple is only 1-2 mpg, but the abuse the truck takes is huge. We spent literally thousands in maintenance and repairs after the last trip we pulled the triple and to be perfectly honest I can't afford the additional expense plus fuel. I hope that meets with approval from the group - I really do want to use IPOR resources to benefit the club - so if it helps make the trip possible for a couple of extra people to use the IPOR F350 as a tow rig then consider it available.

Assuming the triple is available, Cam is planning to occupy one spot and I know that Kenny has confirmed that he will be coming and wants to share a trailer. Anyone else? Norm? Fred? Tim Minner? I think the sooner we can sort these details out the easier it will make planning the actual trip. (we may want to shuffle which trucks occupy which trailers so that we're not overweight, that sort of thing)

As far as Moab accomodations go I think I would prefer renting a cabin in a campground, if it's affordable, so that we can hang out around the campfire and talk about what Cam broke that day... <grin> Ben has suggested the same campground used by Cruise Moab because it has campsites, hot shower and cabins available.

I am going. I was planning on towing John E.'s tandem trailer with Tim Miners fj40 on it along with my 4runner. If Norm can go I could pull his 4runner and let the 40 go on the triple. These three trucks were part of the original group going out and I would like to make sure they have a spot. I already have the gooseneck installed so towing the tandem will not be a problem.

Please everyone post up and lets get all of this out there as early as possible so we can work out the details!

Yee-Haw! Let's Ride! :steer:

I'm planning on taking leave for the event, barring any unforseen requirements for the National defense. I'll drive the Tacoma but could use a passenger to swap driving responsibilites. At the party Tim M and I were talking about riding together if he trailers his FJ40 but that might be infuenced by some wrenching he was planning on doing before the trip. As far as berthing I'm GTG with any option the group goes for - just need to plan for what gear I need to bring if we camp, stay in a cabin, or motel.

hmmm....let me see if those dates can work...

** Indicates that these vehicles are 100% commited to going

Please check your dates/ vacation plans and post up. We have limited spots on the Tandem trailer and possible triple trailer. Please do not post and take a spot if you are not 100% sure that you are going.
I will update this list as people post up.

We can figure out fuel and wear and tear for the tow rigs once we figure out what rigs are going on what trailers. If anyone else has a tandem trailer that is roadworthy for this trip please post up and we can add that to the list.

*******If there is anyone missing from this list let me know. If there is someone on this list that does not get on here much, get in touch with them and have them post up or post up for them. We need to know how many trailers we need and who is going to tow them.********

Here is the link to the place Ben was talking about Slickrock Campground

located at the end of town. They have cabins for $44.00 per day, no bathrooms, showers, kitchen in room. They do have heat and a/c. Three bathhouses on location.
