I can't think of anything hateful to say about the Cuban but wanted to mention him!

Just giving this a bump. If I can convice Alan to let us dirty up his woods. What would you all think about chipping in a renting a steam cleaner and clean our vehicles up before we wrench on them? I'll check with Alan and see what I can work out on a price.

Talk with Scott yesterday. He has access to a big steam cleaner. So we are good to go and best of all it's free.

Talked with Kurt with Cruiseroutfitters. He is working up a deal for us on a group buy.

Advice solicitation

Should I think about changing out my rear diff, i.e. the explodable parts?
Of do you guys think if it was going to happen it probably already would have?
Or maybe just come along to watch and learn, be ready when (if) it happens?

Sure wouldn't hurt to give my underbody a good wash. Haven't had near enough deep water crossings lately.

What is the availability of our FJC explodable parts? Can we get on ly the ring gear piece??? If so I would be up for doing that at some point if the price was right...

from talking with Rick Arflin, Toyota doesn't sell just the R&P, it's the whole 3rd, which retails for around $1200. You can figure the discount price from that. Not too many folks are producing stock gearing for these 3rd's. I reckon you could find someone with stock R&P's, but my search last summer didn't turn up any. You can get bigger gears, 4.11 or 4.56's, but then no one has a setup for the front because the housing is too small for 4.11's or 4.56's, so that's kind of pointless:bang: unless you want to throw a solid axle on the front.

The trick I hear on swapping 3rds in an FJC is to remove all the e-brake clips along the frame rails. Then once your hubs are unbolted you should be able to slide the axle shafts out just enough on each side to pull the 3rd.

Otherwise you will have to undo the jigsaw puzzle that is the e-brake on the rear wheels. When we did the trail repairs, we just tossed all the ebrake parts in a box and then delivered the truck to the dealer for them to sort that aspect out.

*phone conversation*
"Um, Mr. Carswell, where are all your e-brake parts? And we couldn't find your drive shaft?"

"See the empty jack stands box? They are in there and the drive shaft is in the back seat, of course.":D

This should be a lot of fun and a great chance for me to learn something.
I ordered a new carb for Gundy today should be here by Monday.
I've had the same old 38DGAS Weber on there for over 20 years.
It's got some float problems. In other words it's toast in my book.
I don't think I can wait till this event to slap it on however . :grinpimp:
Now I still haven't taken the top off to install that brand spanking new
headliner. ;) Maybe with some extra arms around I might try to get the top
popped at this event. Shoot I may even let ya'll get a whiff or two of
the most excellent glue fumes.

I guess what I'm hearing is ride it 'til it blows then hope for warranty claim.
Thanks for the hint on the repair though. Well noted

Marshall, I'm interested in this as my front is weeping and due for at least seals but if apart I was going to do the whole shooting match. Been holding off since it was a bigger job:o than I felt comfortable tackling alone. So if you are looking a volunteer 60.....I could be it. Just let me know the details. Heard a parts washer is a huge help, where could I buy or rent one for the event? :hhmm: Note, I am cheap and proud of it.

We planning to make this trip...need to pick up some welding skilz from the wise ones. Cat's truck is entering the wheeling field and we need to do some body work. We've even got our own 110v welder, just need to learn how to use it and get it back from Heather. :)

Marshall, what's the deal with the steam cleaner? Will it be at Alan's or are you cleaning rigs "offsite" before arriving at Alan's?

I have a call in to Alan to confirm the area for the pressure washer.

Also I have been trying to find someone to do a group buy on Axle rebuilds but have come up with nothing. Everybody is out or non responsive. Tomorrow will be my last day if I cannot find a good deal for all of us you will be on your own. I figure if I can find something we can just do a paypal to the club and have the club put it on one order and have it all shipped in one box. SHould save on shipping and cut cost down. Kurt is out of kits. Marlin has yet to respond. Rick at RHT was way out of most price ranges for OEM. You can still go that way if you like.

I'd like to get a list together of who is planning on attending. SO if you are planning on coming can you please state it below with the days coming, if your staying in a tent and what you want to accomplish.

We're both coming up (two trucks) and will arrive Saturday late AM. Staying one night in a tent.

Hoping to pick up enough welding skills to close up Bertha's rear fender flares. I can participate in any FJC third teardown, if that happens at all. I don't claim to be an expert, but I've done it with lots of coaching.

Also hoping to absorb any Cruiser tech knowledge going on around the garage and willing to lend a hand if needed.

I'll be in and out depending on my schedule and will be staying at my house. I'll watch over someone's shoulder to learn a bit...

I couldn't have said it better myself. Would love to be present for the rebuild and the locker install. Can bring hand tools and will get dirty if someone needs me to.

After spending way to much time on the phone talking with vendors and getting pricing we have decided to move this event back to give us a better opportunity of have a successful event as well as saving us a good amount of money.

We have pushed this event back to June 20th-22nd.

Still will be at Alan's house in the mountains.

In the coming days I will be making more details of the group buy available. So stay tuned.

Ha, ha. Someday my calendar with align with one of these big events...

Sweet!

I can make it now!

I have a '76 front axle for the 40 that needs to be totally rebuilt. I have no idea what I need for a parts list. If anyone can help put together a list of parts, I'll get it all ordered, load it all up and learn me a thing or two.

Nevermind, can't make it.

Tatormobile Is In

I sent a list of parts to marshall, so I plan to attend and do my front axle. Seals are weeping so its time to do it.
