Hehe...

If this doesn't pan out, and everyone still wants to donate to and work on a project...my stock LX450 is dying for some toys!

Are you volunteering the LX for donation to be the 1st club raffle truck?

I would be into it - this could be a very well organized rebuild - separate out the areas with club members expertise with a Repair/Mod leader and a group of helpers - the vehicle could be taken apart and cataloged - sent to different home garages to be worked on - sign up for your spot and time ...something of a commitment ;)

I would also not limit this to club members only raffle - Lets entertain the idea of offering it to all mud ( paid ) members - To be raffled off at at soon to be described CSC one year event in our state -

This could also be used as a charity fund raiser - something to go along with the sport/hobby - like keeping trails open - Blue ribbon - ETC - would not be hard to get donations for getting it started.

imagine what could be accomplished by a couple dozen club members all focused -

The VW club runs their raffle as open to anyone that shows up for the event and is present with raffle tickets in hand at the time of the final raffle.

Hey Bman

Do you happen to know how much the average $$$ take was on the raffle ticket sales for the club?

No sir, I do not. CSC is actually the first "club" that I've ever been involved in, and of course my buddies in ABC weren't sharing the info. What I can tell you is that every year I attend, depending on the financial situation at the time, I allocate $50 to $100 dollars for raffle tickets. I can also tell you that there are MANY more people than I care to count who spend upwards of $300 + on raffle tickets for the weekend. I would expect that we would probably not come close to recouping our "investment" as a club for at least the first two years.
That said, I also think that the value of a project like this is far greater than the dollars spent, but is more equal to the dollars saved by those who learn something from their involvement. Never done a knuckle rebuild? We'll probably cover that. Need to fab up some rock sliders? We'll show ya how. Always wanted to get rid of that rat's nest of wiring under the dash? Take a look at how we're gonna handle the issue. It's the value of the combined knowledge of participants in a build like this that could be INVALUABLE to fellow members and others outside of the "club".

I agree the knowledge gained would be well worth the money spent on the build up. Even if the average joe spends $50 on raffle tickets and we get the word out there and say 200 people buy tickets thats $10k. We find a rig like that 60 for $900 and run through it, and don't go too crazy in mods out of the block we might be able to break even. I think we could also make money as I suggested earlier if we also offer up the DVD instructionals as well on the net through our website for non CSC club member purchase. I think this is a great way to start making some money as a club so we can start doing more things around the state to help make a difference and maybe change the bad rep wheelers get.

I also liked alot of desertdude's ideas as well about how the build would work.

BTW Bman WTF is this sir :censor: ??

HAHAHA! That was in no way meant as a dig. Although now that I think about it, my Momma always did say to respect the elderly... or was it my elders? Either way you fit into both categories and therefore...SIR. :flipoff2:

Maybe you could change the sig to "Old D"...

I maybe your senior by a few years at best, so quit throwing the damn nails in my coffin there youngster. I will still hang with the best of you on any night and drink you under the table if given the chance to. Don't make me drag you south of the border with me sometime and school you in the fine art of partying.

the youth of today

One thing we haven't brought up is sponsorship. I think we can get parts at cost from some of the vendors the group does business with, along with those who want to do business with the group in the future.
I'll drive around with "Slee Offroad" or "ARB" on my rig if I got it for free...that could be a condition of owning it.
I like the idea of doing a video but I think they should be online, question is how to monetize it. Distribution costs may be less and we could have more content than what would fit on one DVD.
This also means the group would need a party committee to come up with a date, time, meeting place, and plans for the CSC "Cruz the Desert" event where this vehicle was raffled.
Big project...we'd need a project manager...

SO... for two+ years now I've shuffled names around in my head for this event and in one day YOU NAMED IT!

What should this event entail? Let's get seperate thread started for the event. Shall we?

I was thinking about this earlier as well BMAN. I was going to PM you on it, but since it is out now... If most of the proceeds were to go to a charity from the event, my company might get involved from the production angle with necessary lighting, audio, video, staging gear and such. Also this could possibly bring on board a well known communication company if one of their charities were so sponsored with some free air time advertisements of the event as a wash. We also could get an event license and bring on board an alcohol distributorship as well to donate beer sales to the named charity. Just don't know how big you want to make this thing, but we definitely have the know how and resources available to us to do it.

You can check out a little bit of what we do at: Shadow Mountain Productions, Inc.

WHOA THER BIG FELLA! Pull them reigns in a bit. While your intentions and thoughts are noble... let's not put the cart that far in front of the horse. Keep in mind that in order to pull off something of that scale it would take a HUGE amount of time on the part of the club not to mention the liability to the club when you hold an event of that size.

Let's slow it down a bit first and talk about what we want the "event" to be.

Well you Bman know me go big or go home - since then I have tempered my grand ideas a bit :)

The best events start out because you are having fun with your friends after a couple years and the same people still want to go next year and they bring along a few other friends the "event" grows all on its own.

I would like to see our club every year do something we like to do " call it anything we want" and see how this flys

Last fall some of us went to Fossil Springs to do a trail clean up - it was real fun the -wheeling easy - but it was the people/camping/hang time and area views that made the trip. Not to mention the fine swimming - ( heck this is where I ruined my knee trying to get down to the creek and had my fisrt taste of "cracker cakes") We did this in Sept of last year and want to repeat the event this year.

AZ has an immense amount of trails and areas to make it a long weekend of trail runs and camping - Could we as a club find a place we all like to go and make it an every year event? - " Florence Junction" ? somewhere more obscure and secret ?

Check the new thread!

Let's put this thread back on topic and have all discussions regarding club "event" planning in the "Cruz the Desert" thread.

Just my .02, putting media online may be more difficult than it seems. If you want to put a lot of media online, you have to find space to store it, then you may have to pay for bandwith from people downloading it. Plus if you want it to be of any quality, I'm thinking we'll want to show some details, you can't compress it much to save space, which means more storage space and download bandwith.

At broadcast quality video, you can put almost 2 hours on one DVD. A typical truck show on the weekend is only 30 minutes, so I figure a Cruiser HowTo DVD will feature 2 maybe 3 episodes per DVD. Blank DVDs and cases are pretty cheap these days too.

There's probably someone else here that is better at DVD production than me, but if not I'll volunteer time to put something together. I've got a pretty decent computer and decent software for this kind of stuff.

Hey thanks for letting me give input on this guys, I'm not a CSC member yet, but I plan to join once I get a chance to meet and wheel with some of you guys.

David,

Your jump right in attitude is just the kind of thing we need around here. We share a ton of information and ideas here and keeping up with them is sometimes very hard to do. Don't get in too deep and overwhelm yourself. It'll all shake out.

And you're right. Those 1/2 hour shows are really only about 17 minutes of information crammed between 12 minutes or so of commercials. We could put a TON of quality info on a 2 hour DVD.

Bman I like the idea and I see there are Jeep clubs in CA that do this every year, a nice built Wrangler with lots of toys and the winner wheels it at the event.

The Tin Benders built a Toyota pickup IN ONE DAY at last year's Toyota Jamboree. I'm not saying we do anything like this it's just a neat idea.

But, I would want to try and find a FJ40 as a raffle/buildup candidate. Since a 40 is by far the most recognizable "Land Cruiser" model, I think it would gain more exposure and would ultimately be a better candidate. I know you threw out the idea of the 60 because of cost, and I agree it's a good starting point, but I think a 40 would be better.

I agree 100% Mark. The 60 idea I threw out because of cost and the fact that it was convieniently posted in another thread. I love the idea of doing up a 40 and will be very dilligently looking for a candidate. We could also rotate makes from year to year depending on what we find for cheap.
