Clicking in Engine bay or Front side (1 Viewer)

Rolled up to my house and turned my stereo off, noticed a sound coming from what seems to be my engine bay (not too certain because when I popped the hood I couldn't hear it while running), anyway I was sitting in my seat and I was hearing what sounded to be a constant click, sorta like a clock. Not too sure what is up; current issues with truck include a cracked gas tank and a dirty canister both are on order through toyota...
Any advice or suggestions? It literally sounds like a clock in my engine lol

Is it like every second, or every just the metallic tick? Have someone rev the engine and see if it increases or stays the same?

aftet reving it stays the same just a constant ticking that sounds like a clock. I would try to listen as I rev but it gets drowned out by the engine. At idle and slow speeds it clicks

I've got a similar ticking noise that comes from the PAIR unit. I'm guessing it's something to do with one of the diaphragms inside, as they cycle through whatever it is that all that plumbing does...besides take up room for a York compressor. It doesn't seem to have any negative effect on running, so I figure it's best to just leave all that stuff be. Ain't broke, don't fix it.

I think its too quiet to be a valve or fuel injector.... Im not exactly sure what it is you can only hear if from the cab so far... I had a hard time hearing over the fan so tomorrow ill take the fan off and see where the noise is coming from

A little more information; when I was installing some hardware in the rear and my engine was running my lady was playing around with the snorkel covering the hole with her hand making the engine seem like it was choking (the first time i didnt know it was her but the second time I caught her and yeah...) would that have anything to do with it?

No. Doesn't hurt anything.

Don't take off the fan. Use a long screwdriver, a thin piece of rod or piece of hose. Hold one end to your ear, and the other yo various sources while the engine us running. Better yet, a mechanics stethoscope. Can get them for about $15 at Harbor Freight.

Very easy way to correctly diagnose a problem.

Be careful around the fan and pulleys while it's running. Only touch the BOLT HEAD on the idler pulley.

Figured it out... I removed my windshield wipers a few months back and I guess I hit the switch so the sound I was hearing were the little knobs turning haha

yeah haha I felt pretty stupid and then I realized that I will never be a mechanic and I should continue to stay in Med school lol

It's not that it's tough it's just that it doesn't come as easy to me as science and school does

My Father was an Electronic Engineer. All of that stuff made perfect sense to him. I hate things electronic/electrical and for the life of me...can not seem to muster more than a rudimentary understanding of it.

'Mechanical' things....their principles, concepts and applications....I GET. Those things come easily for me.

So...we have all have our different aptitudes in different areas.

I get the same type of thing in my 80 as well, but only on cold days, and only while moving, but the soumd dosent change with vehicle or engine speed. It's def coming from somewhere in the dash, and it's not my wipers . Just started this winter too... it's quite the mystery.
