Cleaning up the speedo

Does anyone know how to get the speedo needle off the speedo so I can clean up the numbers in behind? It seems that someone once said that you could simply pull it off but that doesn't seem to work. Is it possible it's threaded on?

I do not remember seeing one that the needle threaded onto the shaft. They pull off. They are not usually easy to remove, and many times the needle gets damaged.

I tried to get the needle off a while back and gave up. It's no big deal to take the odometer out and clean/lube the numbers

just twist and pull anti-clockwise - be gentle

I ended up simply removing the screws holding the face and working with the needle still attached. All is good and all is clean!
