Cleaning the throttle body on a FJ62...

it'll make your engine smoke for a little while but I don't think it will do much harm. But i could be wrong. Did you use wd40 or any kind of lube on the TPS or just turn it by hand till it felt smooth?

I didn't use any lube. I've got the TB off now..been cleaning it for nearly an hour. I took the TPS off too just to see what's in there. The FSM says not to try to clean it but I sprayed TB cleaner onto a Q-tip to clean the non-functional parts (there wasn't much that needed cleaning in there though).
If you loosen the 2 screws that hold the TPS in place you shouldn't need any lube.

Getting ready to take my TB off for cleaning and to adjust/test the TPS and noticed the black thing below the cables in this pic...the one on my 62 doesn't have a cap on it... can post a pic later if needed. Does anyone know if it needs the cap?

I don't think so. Dash pot is not critical. And, good luck finding a used cap. Maybe Cruiser parts.net, or the the parts wanted here at MUD.
Here's a site that will sell you a new one. First part on the list. FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM / toyota | part list|JP-CarParts.com

I haven't cleaned my throttle body, so can't really say about those hard to reach places. Doesn't FSM say to used compressed air?

Thanks! I'm not going to order a new one yet. Spent an hour cleaning the throttle body with throttle body cleaner, toothbrush, and paper towels (landlords probably wondering what that smell is coming from their basement hehe). Then adjusted the TPS. Hopefully these two things will fix my problems. If not, may order a new dash pot.

FSM does say to use compressed air to "clean all passages and apertures" after cleaning the throttle body. I don't have a compressor...will do what I can with my lungs I guess.
