Cleaned my TB this weekend. I was surprised that after only 83K miles, the TB was a mess. The backside of the throttle body had caked on, black, carbon type stuff that was not easy to remove. The upper intake was all black inside. It amazes me that with only air moving through these parts that they get so dirty. Or is it the oil sucked through the PCV that causes this stuff?

Yes, that's some of it, plus exhuast gas recirculation.

Nope, not really. After pulling the TB off, I was sure that the gunk was the problem. I also cleaned the head of the IAC valave and removed the battery negative so that the computer would go into a relearn mode. But, the same problem exisits.... the LX runs and idles well, it is just that the computer is not sure where it wants to idle. Somtimes, right at 600, sometimes a little higher, sometimes at 500. Almost like the IAC is a little lazy. Sometimes coming to a quick stop, the idle will dip to 500 and then move up to 600.

Guess it is time to start throwing parts at it!!!!!!

a pity!

you could have had so much fun doing the SeaFoam block blanketing smoke project.... :)

Tell me more about the seafoam. Would I have to change the oil after the Seafoam 'ordeal'... becaase I just spent $60 on Mobil 1 extended life.
