Hello!

I am in the market for an LX or LC. I tow a boat, a Yamaha Grizzly to the hunting cabin, or a camper a few times a year, so I think I want the VVTi and the assumed power from a 2006/2007 model year. Other than that, it will be a daily driver that I also take on canoe trips or camping. I would also love to put in an Android Auto compatible head unit but I know that is pretty much impossible with a NAV model! I love the look and feel of the 100 series and would prefer the vehicle to be unmodified -- for now. I could be convinced out of any of these criteria, of course, if the right offer presented itself. But overall, it has to be clean inside, out, and under.

Price is relative. I want to pay as little as possible as I am a well-known cheapskate by my friends. But, I also want good value. I want to drive this thing for as long as I can maintain it. That means I am willing to spend on a quality ride and quality maintenance. But at some point, I might just be better off getting a 200 series instead since they are priced fairly close to the upper end of the boutique-level 100 series.

Other than basic maintenance, I do not wrench. About as deep as I would go would be possibly attempting a suspension upgrade - maybe - after lots of YouTubing and reading.

I gotta say negotiating with dealers remotely is excruciating when they have no service records or won't confirm if dealer-noted service issues have been corrected like timing belts or water pumps. Crowdsourcing from the folks who hang out here has to be vastly superior to negotiating with dealers.

Lastly, I currently live in the northern Minnesota area. There is no such thing as a clean LC/LX around here that I've seen. I have lots of Delta Skymiles I can spend to get anywhere in the US making location of the vehicle irrelevant.

I've listed a few of the vehicles I've found interesting. All seem to be overpriced based on a few issues like incomplete service records, rust on the underbody, missing maintenance, unresponsive sellers, etc. Thoughts and recommendations from the group here would be helpful - perhaps to help clarify my thinking on value or tell me I can't see a good deal when it drops outta the sky and wiggles on my chin.

I understand that those criteria are rough. How about 3 out of 6? That was kinda the thrust of my post. Doesn't have to be all of those things. Was hoping people who know better about this than I do could make suggestions about what criteria are the most important. Doesn't have to be low miles. Doesn't have to be non-NAV - that was a pipedream as I mentioned. Doesn't have to be low price, but if it isn't it better have 3 of the other 5. Doesn't have to be 06/07, but if it isn't it better have a couple of the others. It does have to be clean.

What are the best 3 or 4 outta 6 to hit? I guess I could have summed it up better in my first post.

Just click to watch this forum and have alerts emailed to you. That’s what I did. Ultimately found a very well maintained 99 LC from a dealer who was very reasonable and had records, but talked to several people here. In short, watch this (and the 200 series) forums so you get emails when a new thread is posted and get auto trader alerts. Then wait the months it will take you to find what you want.

I am watching this forum. Not watching the 200 forum, but will start. I've been getting alerts from Autotrader and others for a bit. I am starting to realize why these vehicles are priced north of KBB now. It's been a real eye-opener. Thanks for the advice.

Sounds like patience is the key...

Patience is definitely the key. I spent 4 months looking for a quality LC/LX. Put 5 on the rack - the first 4 failed for a myriad of reasons. Bad steering racks, wheel bearings, crappy repairs, undisclosed damage etc etc. I ended up with a 2014 LC in fantastic shape and fairly low miles. It came up on Car Gurus at 9:00 pm on a Friday and I bought 30min after the dealer opened on saturday, subject to inspection. When you see a good one you gotta move quickly.

If you see one you like in Houston let me know, I’ll happily take a look for you.
