Looking at going to see Citizen Cope at Cats Cradle in Carrboro next month..anyone been to a concert there before?

Used to be one of my favorite venues - despite it's location :-) I've probably seen 40-50 shows there over the years.

It's pretty much a dump with decent audio. Long bathroom and bar waits - cash only at the bar. Like Prez said, parking is a PAIN!.

It was and the loudest show I've ever attended! 2nd loudest would be the smashing pumpkins on the Siamese Dream tour at the Ritz in Raleigh. It's a wonder I can still hear. I also play drums.

My bff plays the drums - she has an entire room in her apartment creatively named " the drum room" - my daughter thinks I have the coolest friends..I was RELIEVED however when she chose clarinet for the first year of band..(I'm secretly hoping she moves up to sax before highschool)

Back to the actual subject - the loudest show I went to was Clutch at some dive up near Raleigh last year. Holy CRAP we were up front and my ears rang for days! (people wonder why I don't think an FJ40 is too loud)

I can't decide if I should go - the huz prolly can't get off and he still guilts me for going to Clutch without him haha.

The Koka theater outside of Cary is my outdoor fave - saw Kings of Leon rite before they hit the big time.

I've never been to the Cradle, but I can guarantee that Koka Booth will never win a "loudest show ever" award. The noise threshold there is ridiculously low. You definitely want to pick your patch of earth wisely there.

The Roots at Amos' in CLT was probably my loudest of 2012 - I literally felt ill and dizzy, definitely beyond dangerous levels. Or maybe B.O.B. at Converse College which was an outdoor show. Plus they 'rehearsed' at full volume for over 2 hours. Loudest ever was NERD inside Cameron at Duke in 2010. Nothing but smooth, reflective surfaces and way too many subs. Some people can't seem to understand that sheer volume is often a detriment. I usually know who those people are going into an event.

That's why I liked Koka! It wasn't deafening.

So John - I need some new music - any suggestions? ANY end of the musical spectrum is allowed..

Stormtroopers of Death won't steer you wrong. Vintage heavy. Remember the Headbangers Ball theme? Yep, them.

Look up Mike Farris. He's in Carrboro next weekend, too. Greatest white gospel/soul voice I've heard in years. Used to be in Screamin' Cheetah Wheelies.

Screaming Trees' Sweet Oblivion is a longtime fave.

BUT, I pretty much stopped listening to current music about 15 years ago, so what the hell do I know?

EDIT: Vusi Mahlasela is playing with Choc Drops tonight. Checking right now. Good stuff. World music, maybe?

Ill give em a go, for the most part. Ive come back around to ska - but Im always looking for something different (I have 3 "B"s - no Beiber, no Boy ~bands~, no Beatles - go ahead and cuss me out about the Beatles)

Ah Ska, Skavoovie and Epitones, The Toasters, and the Aquabats. Opened up for the Aquabats once, back when Travis Barker was still their drummer... good times. Opened for D.I. for our first show ever.

Loudest shows ever, White Zombie at the Monk in Wilmington. D.R.I. and Body Count was also pretty loud. And then the Ministry shows were also up there...

Sort of off topic, but if any of you are fusion fans, The Ringers are playing the Lincoln on February 21. Band is: Jimmy Herring (Widespread Panic), Michael Landau (Miles Davis, James Taylor), Wayne Krantz (Steely Dan), Etienne Mbappe (John McLaughlin) and Keith Carlock (Steely Dan, Sting). These guys are going to blow the joint! Herring and Landau are two of my favorite guitarists and Carlock is an insane drummer. YouTube those guys if you don't know them. My buddy who runs Abstract Logix got them together.
