As a pioneer in the refinement of late model North American specced Landcruisers it is about time you and your wonderful compadres Ben and Robbie offer us diesel lovers an option. I know that others have done it and it is possible! What engine...well possibly Toyota, Hino, Isuzu, Cummins, International, Mercedes, John Deere? Next time you have shipment of transmissions from OZ have them throw a couple of Turbo Diesel Engines on. Maybe the engines could come from SA or Iceland (closer). If people are willing to pay ~$3000.00 for a super charger the diesels should sell also. If not a Toyota diesel for lack of parts availabilty why not do a Cummins conversion? Too much torque? I know you have a lot of thought into all of this but please share these thoughts with the board for those of us that dream of diesel cruisers? Will it happen? Others should feel free to post also but please stick to the topic!

If you search, you'll see someone in Canata just swapped in stinkies for 2 of their 80's.

Remember they only have so much bandwidth.

We actually measured a Cummins motor. Not sure it will ever fit. is is a whole 12" taller than the 1FZ.

As for bringing motors in from South Africa, it can be done. However I might be wrong but there are not that many people that will put their $'s behind their mouths and pay for a diesel conversion.

Christo is on to something there. Bullsh.t walks and money talks!

FYI,

Marks 4wd in OZ sells a conversation for a chevy 6.5, they can be brought in to the US thru advance adapters... Just something to think about as i am, not my choice of diesel but parts would be easy to find.

How about running hoodless with the Cummins? So what's the $$$ involved in the SA option? I don't even have any money to put anywhere near the vicinity of my mouth.......yet. However I assure you that my 80 will one day run on Diesel and its never too soon to research the options. As soon as I have the money its going where my fat diesel mouth is and I want to know what option to spend it on! Until then I will continue the blueprints for wedging a Detroit Diesel into an 80.

I think the two guys that did it in Canada said somethiing like C$16,000 - sp US$10K - $12K....YMMV...

That sounds about right.............. and one did a conversion with the five speed, said it was a breeze compared to the auto and all the wiring.

you should probably drive a factory toyota diesel, before you look at converting one, if that doesnt convince you your wasting your money, you deserve to lose it.......

6.6 duramax woudl be maybe worth the effort.

no kidding! :D

DId you guys see the diesel 45 that is on the cover of 4wheel drive magazine? It's really hot and has a detroit diesel slammed in her.

I think the cat's wiskers would be a 100 series with a Duramax/Alisson combination. I think the 100 series might be an easier fit since the front end is wider and should accomodate the radatiotor/intercooler better.
