Chrome Wheels - can I do anything with them?

I have a 2006 LX that has the chrome wheels. Is there anything that can be done to remove or cover the chrome finish without making them look like a high-school shop project? I don't necessarily need anything fancy, I just hate the bling. (And yes - the PO bought them.)

I don't think there's much you can do. I had the same problem and mine were pitted pretty badly. Powdercoaters told me nothing would reliably stick to them. And the chrome is too hard to beadblast off without shredding the aluminum underneath. Craigslist has lots of tundra cast-offs and I ended up going that route.

Plasti-dip them. I wanted to cover the chrome bumpers and grill on my 4Runner and the black plasti-dip looks great.

A reputable powdercoater shop/refinisher can take care of it. It's a pain to get it off but if done properly it works. Then powdercoat/clear. Getting this done with a set of 7 series wheels as we speak.

When I priced doing this for my FJ60 it was more expensive to strip and recoat than to replace the wheels.

Step 1: Scuff then paint - DupliColor wheel paint holds up great
If ^that^ didn't net the look you're hoping for...
Step 2: Replace them with non-chrome and the options are wide open - 'cause you don't have to strip that chrome. A friend just bought a full set of those wheels (non-chrome) for his 2001 LX for $75.00. He's having them powder coated, but even leaving them stock would've looked a lot better the OE chrome
