I've never been a fan of chrome, and there is a ton on these things. After pulling the GX460 letters, it's time to try my hand at HyperDip. I'm terrible at painting, so we will see how this turns out. I'm starting with the rear, before moving on to the sides and grill on another day.

I'd rather have vinyl, and even better, paint, but vinyl was running $600-$900, and I'd rather use that money elsewhere. Hopefully it holds up.

Just don't forget to wipe all the surfaces off with alcohol before applying any paint/coating.

Step 1. Washed the GX on Saturday
Step 2. Wiped the dipping areas with pre-dip spray this morning
Step 3. Masked the areas
Step 4. 6 wet coats with 15 minutes between coats, and an hour on the final one.
Step 5. Coat with Dip Coat tomorrow morning

I think it turned out great! I'll move on to the sides in the next week or two.

I've also ordered BlueBat overlays to get rid of the Altezza look. "Red with the signals cut out" This should clean up the rear nicely.

Looks good! Is it black or a dark gray? It may be the way the sun it hitting it.

I need to get another vinyl quote before I move forward with spraying mine. Yours turned out great @Littlehouse, I've never heard of that product before.

It's black. The Dip Coat is supposed to make it even darker. I'll try to take better pics tomorrow after the coat.

Thanks Tex. Check out Dipyourcar.com if you go this route. The HyperDip is specifically made for cars, and supposed to be darker than the regular PlastiDip. I got this kit for simplicity and didn't even use one can for the work you see above.

The bottom photo shows best the color! ;)

It definitely looks a hell of a lot better. How durable is this stuff? Do you expect it to peel or chip after a few months of wasting it? Any suggestions on how often you have to do a recoat? Want to come down to Texas and do mine for me?

This is my first go with it, so I’m not sure how long it will last. It seems pretty tough, and I’ve seen good reviews, but time will tell. I wash weekly with a power washer, so I should find out pretty quickly if it’s not worth the effort.
If it chips or peels, it’s probably better to just peel it and re-spray. Buy a can and get to it. If I can do it, anyone can. Trust me.

Did you tape everything but the emblem and trim or did you overspray the areas outside of it and then razor around and peel the excess? In your pics above it doesn't appear that you taped right up to the emblem. Is there enough product in that kit to do the rear and the front?

That’s the beauty of dip. The second pic above is the ultimate prep. It’s not like paint where you tape all the way up to the emblem or trim. You leave space and spray onto the paint. The real key is to spray the same thickness on the paint as the emblem and trim. The Dip will cut itself perfectly when it comes to a break. Plenty to do the front and the rear. The kit comes with 3 cans, and the back didn’t even finish one can.

Did you use the product from dipyourcar.com? Everything is back-ordered, you must have gotten it just in time. That looks really good. I'm intrigued.

Yep. I went with the kit for simplicity. HyperDip™ Grille/Mirror/Trim Kit You could always piece it together for a little cheaper...except the HyperDip, but it wasn't worth it to me. I also added the DipCoat for protection.

I really hope it holds up because it looks just as good as a wrapped car for a fraction of the price. I'm just as surprised as all of you as I have never done anything like this before.

I like that they have two gloss blacks to choose from. Piano black gloss should look good if you've got a black 460. Depending on how long it takes me to get ready to raptor line my 460 I may give this a go in the meantime. 👍
