Chrome Bezel?

I'm in the process of priming my 40 and a couple days ago i striped the bezel, it was was chromed under the paint, did the po do this?
Should i leave it? I'm probably going to pain it red. I've only see one pic with a chrome bezel, it looked interesting.

I have the round, its on a 66.

I've got most of the chrome parts collected for my 79 mainly because I have more than one FJ40 and decided to pimp one one just for the fun of it. Besides chrome will not hurt the stock value of a FJ40 because the non-chrome parts can just be bolted on later. That is something that can't be said for all options.
