I just received this:

Four Wheeling Friends:

Senator Bingaman (D-NM) has introduced a huge omnibus lands bill that tries to slip in the Prehistoric Trackways National Monument. This bill is S.3213. You can look at it at Thomas.gov: Search Results - THOMAS (Library of Congress) Title II Subtitle B contains the trackway national monument. This omnibus bill also contains the National Landscape Conservation System bill. If you think the Wilderness Act has been misused and adulterated to become a land closure weapon, the NLCS is the icing on the cake. It will most likely be used to close the rest of the BLM land to OHV and ranching use. You might say that the NCLS is in place now and has not been used as a weapon yet. That is true, right now it is just an a department of Interior administrative program. Once it is codified by Congress and becomes law, then the lawsuits can start to use it to close whatever wilderness has not been able to close.

Senate bill 3213 must be stopped NOW!!

What must you do?

1. Contact Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) and ask him to not bring this bill to the Senate floor for a vote. As Majority Leader in the U.S. Senate, Reid controls what is brought to a vote. If this bill becomes controversial, the chances of it being acted on lessen.

2. Contact New Mexico Senators Bingaman and Domenici and tell them that you oppose this bill. Tell them that this proposed national monument is just an excuse to close this area to recreation and that there are no exposed trackways left. Senator Bingaman visited this area in June. Ask him if he saw any trackways or just a few tracks in a rubble pile?

3. Contact the Senator from your state and ask him or her to vote against S.3213.

4. Contact Congressman Stevan Pearce (R-NM) and ask him to do everything he can to block a similar bill in the House.

We really need your help to keep our public lands open and especially need help saving the Chile Challenge. Please take the time to write today and protect your sport from S. 3213.

For more information about the proposed trackway national monument go to: National Monument Bill Threateni - pay special attention to our alternate proposal and suggest that when you write your emails.

Thank you,

More from Fred Huff:

Four Wheeling Friends:
Recently, Congressman Pearce (R-NM) introduced landmark conservation legislation to protect lands in Doña Ana County, NM – home of the Chile Challenge. This legislation provides true protection in the form of continued access as well as ensuring that our open spaces are not sold to private interests. This bill (HR 6300) is in response to GangGreen wanting to lock up almost 500,000 acres in Doña Ana County as wilderness. GangGreen claims that they want the land “protected” from disposal and development, yet they oppose this bill because it does everything claim to want, except lock it up as wilderness. That tells me that they are really only giving lip service to wanting these lands protected. In reality, they just want them locked up. HR 6300 is a true conservation measure whose time has come. It protects lands from disposal and development without locking everything in wilderness. We need your support for this bill. Please follow the directions below and write letters in support of this bill to your Congressmen.

Thanks,
Fred Huff

Glad to see Pearce stepped up.

Yep - and here is info on how to get ahold of Pearce bumper stickers, yard signs, and to volunteer:

Sorry guys but Pearce is a nut-job on almost every issue.

I just can't vote for one guy because of one issue.

I had to think it over, but you're right on one count. Pearce is a one issue guy:

Freedom.

Besides, look at the alternative. Might as well mothball the cruisers.
