Checking enging oil level (1 Viewer)

I noticed that when I check the oil in the morning, before I start the engine, the oil level is over the top level on the dip stick.

However, once I run the engine, shut it off, wait 2 minutes the oil level is where it should be. Which way is the right way to check oil?

Thanks. This answer my questions. I guess I was running it low since I checked in the morning before starting the engine.

I was just talking to Ali about this yesterday. I have had the hardest time getting the oil level figured out on mine. I have read the owners manual, but I never bothered to read the "checking the oil" part, because I figured 20 years of driving, 15 or so different cars/trucks, that I owned and driving another 15-20 "company" cars and numerous quads and motorcycles, "knew" how to check the oil. Who would have guessed the 1fz was so difficult.
