So it seems that the bushings are the cause of the sloppy wipers not returning correctly or just flopping around the windshield. The bushing should keep the 3/4" hole in the linkage arm from slipping down onto the 1/4" shaft causing the slapping action. I seem to have fixed this problem using a McMaster part number 9579K68, pack of 20 for $8.22 Nylon Double Snap-Grip Hose and Tube Clamp 5/8" to 21/32" Clamp Diameter Ring

Begin by remove the wiper motor and disconnect the linkage from the motor arm. I simply pulled it hard enough and it popped off. I then slipped the clamp over the ball and pressed it closed. put the bushing back throught the hole in the linkage "if it came off" and press the bushing back onto the ball. Its a little difficult to get the bushing back on but with a little force and some fancy finger work it was no problem. Now the linkage cant slip off the bushing onto the ball shaft. DONE! Its beel working fine for me and the wipers are mint again. I have not checked this fix for the middle linkage but mine seems fine without any more tinkering. Good luck!

Great post. Don't have the problem currently but will definitely save this info.

glad somebody found a cheap fix, I had to spend $74 for new wiper links when I replaced the wiper motor.

:whoops:Wait till your in a blizzard and you have to use vise grips to hold the arms together to get home.

Did that once in my pig......that night blew bad

ima do this this weekend and see how it works for me.

otherwise ill bet i have the luck that it pops all the way off in a heavy rain and ill have to do it all Ace Ventura Pet Detective style (Head out the window if you havent seen the movie).

seen it? hell i lived it. bought my 60 from a guy in plano and took it to mr. nguyn in garland for some maintenance before i made it my DD. picked it up in a driving rain and lost my drivers side wiper on the way home. had to pull over and move the passenger blade to the drivers side and rear blade to the passenger side. have since replaced all the blades but their still pretty sloppy. thanks for the tip on the cheap fix.

Thanks for the tip. Mine needs this fix, and my $74 dollars is getting pulled in a dozen different directions!

Butt

cruiserparts.net sells new replacement bushings for $5 a pop. I hade to file one down a bit to get it to snap together, but works like a charm.

Haven't had that yet but,

while I was waiting for the wiper motor I still had to drive to and from work, in May, in SW Michigan, during thunder storm/ tornado season.

drove 35 miles in a torrential down poor that would have made any Monsoon proud using a coat hanger wrapped around the driver side arm to keep my windshield clear.

Mine broke in the middle of a blizzard (of course), and I had the cheapest/most entertaining fix of all:

1) Stop at gas station
2) Pretend to pump gas
3) Steal window squeegee
4) Roll down window and wipe with left arm
5) Conveniently store in passenger footwell. :D

I think I saw you do that...in fact, someone posted video of it:

YouTube - Hit by tires????

Thanks for the info. This should be in the FAQ
