Well, I found a nice FJ55 to replace my old orange and white truck, means I’ll be selling the recently acquired 40 I got from Hildy. It’s a 78, has some rust issues but ain’t too bad, really. The front floor bottoms are bad where they meet the lower part of the firewall. Back sill is pretty solid. All doors have some rust at the bottom, rear bottoms were replaced (repaired) by an amateur. Top is complete and in good condition still has a decent headliner. Some pictures of the truck appear in this link: https://forum.ih8mud.com/sale-parts/728917-nice-40-roof-rack-pa-125-a.html

Interior is very nice, has carpets (!!!), a Tuffy console with a great Pioneer CD player, very nice seats front and rear, has both heaters. Front shoulder belts are in place. Dash is very nice as is the instrument cluster. All gauges work. Wipers work. I fixed the lights and they all work correctly. Horn works. Heater fan blows air. All glass is in good shape. Has a really cool form-fitting roof rack. Truck is olive in color but the PO touched up here and there with a shade of brown. Not ugly but no show truck to be sure. Bumperettes are nice and in place. Front bumper is very nice. Has a good inside mirror and two nice windshield hinge mounted outside mirrors. Original radio is absent but I think I cna get it for the new owner.

Mileage is in the low 120K area. Mechanically it runs pretty good, the engine is strong. I haven’t seen any smoke from it anywhere. Has a header and an exhaust system that I rigged to make it quiet (it had a broken pipe when I bought it). Has either a Holley (I think) or Weber carburetor and starts immediately every try. Idle sticks a bit at times but nothing that has made me get under there to look at the problem. Transmission and transfer case work fine, four wheel drive works and the rears are in good shape. I resealed the rear third member it leaked badly. Doesn’t seem to leak any fluids. Has Warn hubs up front, disc brakes up front. Brakes work OK. Steering is OK.

Has a four inch lift, not OME. The owner previous to my first go-round with this truck had bought five new OEM steel wheels they are on the truck now. Has five hubcaps, too, wheels and caps are in excellent shape. Tires are 33 x 10.50 BFG muds, new style KM. Front tires are like new, rears have a few thousand on them but lots of tread. The spare is a 32 inch mud terrain if I remember correctly, mounted on the original swing out spare tire carrier.

I put a lot of TLC into this truck, truth be known it can use a bit more. The driver front hub needs re-sealing. Included with the truck is a new knuckle rebuild kit complete with Koyo bearings. The rust issues could be fixed or ignored depending on what a buyer has in mind for the truck. It really has a lot of power- all I did under the hood was replace the plugs with OEM and adjust the valves.

I’d like to get SOLD SOLD SOLD $3800 for the truck, it has a clear title in my name. I’d be keeping it for a driver if I hadn’t found the piggy in Tennessee. For $4300 I’d throw in a complete FJ62 with a set of swampers on it. Best to email me shmukter@pa.metrocast.net. Would prefer to sell thsi truck to someone who can come and look it over and see what she's like. Thanks, Gary

WEll, I'm a little late to the party, but if all in front of me pass for some reason I am definitely interested. I'll PM my contact info incase the sale falls through.

40 has been sold

The 40 was sold to an appreciative new Pennsylvania land cruiser owner today. Wish I had a few miore to sell to all those who inquired! Thanks, Shmukster

Gary, Pulled up to work in the FJ 40 and it was kind of amusing to watch the guys drooling over it.
took about 4.5 hours to drive her back, i love it.
Thanks again for a great truck.
Jim

Congrats Jim on your new cruiser, Gary is a great guy to deal with

Dangit Jim ! Well, I'm over my initial heartbreak of missing out on such a reasonably priced cruiser. I'm just north of Dallas - the land of over-priced everything.

So, congrats on your new rig, and if anyone finds one similar, I am definitely 100% in the market and have money burning a hole in my pocket.
