Hello mudders,

I don't post up very often [read: lurker], but if I do it's because I've convinced myself that I have something great to share with the community that has given me so much great knowledge.

I hope this post falls into that category, but I guess it's always possible that this is already common knowledge.

AircooledTech's Tools-On-The-Cheap - DIY Soda Blaster

P.S. - I searched the 60's section for baking soda and I found a thread on soda blasting the chassis & undercarriage, but I didn't see one related to carb cleaning.

P.P.S - Some of the gun forums that I frequent have stated that baking soda also works as a fine polishing compound to smooth up the slide-to-frame fit on a 1911 or similar autoloader, but now I'm way off topic. :whoops:

I am impressed. Another reason for me to buy an air compressor!

Have you built one yet?

On my way to home depot for some clear hose.....
I cant wait to try this.
This IS a great idea!

I"ll have to take a photo of the air compressor we got johnny......500 gallon tank!!!!
It comes on once a day!

Must build one.... great tech!

Awesome idea but sadly I only have a small compressor.......

I guess ill just do small projects!:grinpimp:

But better to have a small compressor, than a small nozzle! LOL

Great tech tip. I have used soda in my blast cabinet, but this way easy for little jobs!

GLHFJ60 - No, I haven't built one yet. It would probably exceed the duty cycle of my little pancake compressor. I'd love to have a big Ingersol-Rand, but alas, I own 2 cruisers so there is always something expensive on my wish list that takes priority over a new compressor.

After my first post on this topic, I searched in the 40 & 55 section. It seems there is more awareness on the benefits of baking soda blasting among those guys.

Most of all, I like the fact that it's cheap, and the fact that it's non-toxic is pure bonus. Taking this a step further, I may try to use this venturi method with some Simple Green the next time I have a serious de-greasing job to tackle.

Anyway, I'm happy to hear all the positive comments, and would love to hear back from anyone who gives it a try.

Thanks,

-Screwbird
