Made it back to Cookeville. The 60 is parked at an undisclosed location in Chatt (died again on the way.) Thanks for the help everyone. Nothing worse than having to put down your beer just to drag someone's junk off the highway. Next time, first round is on me!

Did some reading up today, feel like I've convinced myself it is the coil, and a bad distributor cap/rotor that caused it; too much resistance > too much voltage in the coil > shorting out internally > drop in voltage under load > run like crap and make itself worse until its toasted. Wires are new, plugs in good shape so guessing inside the cap the issue. Make sense with less spark after the distributor, why it ran again, why it would run pretty well at 2000rpm downhill.
Trying to convince myself here so I can go ahead and order, have parts in hand when I am able to actually get to it in a week to even do things like pull the cap or put a volt meter on the coil. Its backwards but 90 miles or so from home only one trip would be great.
If I'm missing something, please chime in.
I think you'll end up having to break the cap to get it off. I would get a new cap and rotor button to start out with and probably a coil as all of that is easy to replace and not that expensive.
