I just kept on the top bracket as well, its all you need with not much weight to it, its plastic, with a 2.5" bolt and your ready to go....

Got my VC120 in today. Pretty straight forward. It's a little snug but it works. No more hissssssssing when I remove the gas cap. I used the old breather bracket just to keep it clean looking
Now make sure not to top off your gas tank when filling up and your new one should last forever. Furthermore, why not just bypass the thing completely and eliminate it? What would that hurt?
By pass the canister? If that's what your talking about, the area I live in Colorado has pretty strict emissions laws. Not sure if I would pass if I didn't have it.
How did you get that bottom lid off? I was scared I was going to bust it, so I left it alone..lol
I was just spinning it around and it kind of just popped off. Its only attached by some plastic clips.

Depends how you eliminate it. Your car can either reek of gas when you park it or you can have a pressurized tank.
The key I believe is to find a vented 2 stage gas cap. Or vent the tank to the atmosphere with a breather like a diff breather.

Canister has nothing to do with SMOG or emissions in my state.
Did you cap the lines or route them together?
Evap systems were one of the first emissions control systems to find their way into cars (in the 60s?) because the amount of pollution from evaporating fuel is unreal. I know I sound pretty smug but I think this knowledge is part of making an informed decision.

I live in a state that doesn't enforce smog regulations (Iowa) and for $50, I see it as worthwhile. Plus, I think there is a marginal safety gain in the charcoal canisters.

Isn't there a vent at the bottom of the OEM canister that isn't there on the VC-120? I have read through this thread and one or two others but I'm not getting what that vent on the OEM is for and what effect that has on the system when it's not there on the new canister.
Both have a vent at the bottom. The OEM vent merely goes to a hose that goes "somewhere". The VC120 vents through the spinny thing that you can just remove to help make it fit easier.
Yes, it doesn't hurt any to leave the hose off, as far as I can tell.

Pretty sure the vent allows fresh air to flow in when the canister is purged (into the running engine).
