Newbie to ih8mud here. I just swapped out my upper and lower control arms and did a complete brake service on my '04 LX470, and thinking about doing the front and rear drive shafts. 325k miles on my cruiser, and am trying to understand the level of difficulty on the drive shaft swaps. Moderate-Novice skill level, but trying to bring this thing back to as close to new as I can. If you recommend other service/updates would love to hear!

It's just 4x 14mm on each end. One end of each has just nuts, and the other ends are nuts and bolts. It's pretty simple. Chock your wheels/ put on e-brake. Lock your center diff if you plan to drive anywhere without one of the shafts in. Don't separate the 2 halves of each shaft from each other, they need to remain in phase relative to each other.

They can be rebuilt. If you're in a decent sized town, a local shop can replace the u joints and spin balance them.

But before removing them for service, have you greased them yet?

If you do replace please follow up with results/impressions.

Considering the same to get the last bit of vibration out of my truck - have replaced nearly everything else thats rubber or wears and its fairly tight now but still some small highway vibes

Are you getting some vibes between 55-65 when accelerating? I had the tires rebalanced and it helped a tiny bit but I think it’s joint/shaft related. Will follow up with results and time if I do it.

yes similar speed - had tires balanced but fairly certain its in the drivetrain as I can feel it change as a roll into/off the gas. Already on fresh toyota OEM CVs which improved a more pronounced vibration I had

Nice! Thats great. Need to do my CVs too. I’ll update here if I move forward with the swap. OEM all the way. Although I did just do the SPC performance UCAs.
