The member who posted this photo has not visited the site in a long time, so I'm not optimistic I will hear back from my outreach to him on this. The center console in this photo appears to be the VDP 315...that is specifically made to fit Jeeps. Anybody have any experience with installation ease/difficulty with this or any product for this mod? Obviously, one gives up rear heater, but that's not an issue for me. An armrest would be mighty nice.

How big a job is removing the OEM console and heater?

That pic looks like a 60. Are you in a 60 or 62? If 60, then the heater is under the passenger seat, not the console. Not sure why you would need the heater removed. I have the Tuffy console and it was pretty self explanatory. I did need to make a few steel spacers but that was it as far as modding.

On a 62: It’s below the console, not in.
It’s fairly easy to remove the console.
I went with the Smittybuilt console.
Arm rest is worth the effort!

Got any pictures or notes from the install process? Looks way cleaner than the Tuffy install I had done years ago, and looks much closer to a factory install, which I like.

There’s a whole thread about it on here somewhere. Lemme look...
FJ62 Smittybuilt Center Console Install

I read this and went for it! (There May be a few other threads on it too). Took a few go rounds with the dremel to get a good fit, but turned out ok!

The cup holders are Tuffy, bought separately.

Anybody see these products anywhere with tan vinyl rather than denim? I see black vinyl, but would like to stick with tan in a brown interior.

I suppose one could have the console recovered in vinyl or leather, but that would raise the budget considerably.

No...looking for like the one in the OP photo...and in tan vinyl, not denim fabric. I don't think it exists. I talked to VDP today about their products...who I think provide for a lot of others. The only thing in vinyl is in black. I'm thinking easy care...and denim will not be easy to keep clean/nice. We're retiring our 62 to customized restoration casual status. No more daily or off-road beatings in its future. It's time for it to look and feel nice. It (and we) have earned it over the last 28 years. It's in the paint barn now. I've restored tan BMW seats that are now ready to install. Lots of restoration work like that. If I have to I'll get the one linked below, mod it first to accommodate the heater, then have it recovered in vinyl below and leather on the armrest to match the BMW seats.
