@bhicks or any other guys out there.

Could you build/ look into design options on something to bolt in place of the stock cup holder on the parking brake side of the console that would function as a raised armrest?

I know a lot of people are asking and enjoying your cup holders now that you have front and rear ones up for sale.
  • Still be able to use the parking brake handle
  • Keep the stock console
  • Use the existing holes and mount, from the stock cup holder.
  • There is a lot of steel support/ bracing behind it.
  • It is very easy to remove the stock cup holder.
  • Needs to be taller than the console with the lid on it.
  • Storage although nice would not be a primary design feature, I was looking for something that is stable has a nice design to it and would give you a place to put your elbow.
  • Padding would be nice.. But you could leave that up to the end user.

I am not much on having a drink while driving, so losing the cup holder behind my elbow wouldn't be a huge deal to me.

And for others that chime in, I have read about all the other options including the one from ebay that bolts in http://www.ebay.com/itm/US-Black-Bi...Parts_Accessories&hash=item5b072a0140&vxp=mtr

The volvo solution raises the existing center console a good 2 inches, but it doesn't bring it any closer to being able to be used for an arm rest. I think that the biggest design setback occurs due to the parking brake location. If not for that, there are a plethora of other consoles that can fit well and work perfect for an arm rest.

There are threads on re-locating the Parking brake. If I thought that everyone (or even a lot of people) would be willing to move the parking brake, I'd certainly put more time / effort / $$$ into creating the right design. But without that moving, you're very limited.

This is definetly a project I could look into, but I have a pile of projects I'm trying to wrap up right now. I just finished the rear double cup holder but I have the Tundra TEQ badge, 80's models truck TEQ badges, FJ40 dash knobs, 4Runner cold holders, shaky mirror fix, 100 series TEQ rear hatch badge, etc. etc. I just can't take on any new projects until maybe this summer at the earliest.

No worries... I was just reading your rear holder thread and have watched your other ones. It would be fun to use all the stock locations for the parking brake existing cup holder and figure out a cool looking design for an armrest/ elbow pad that blends in with the rest of the truck.
I only mentioned you by name because I have seen your other stuff and the finished products looked good :)

I used a replacement center armrest pad from a mid-90's ES300 which I found in excellent condition.
Because its Lexus, the leather and stitching are a perfect match.
The larger size makes a huge difference. It's wider, longer, higher and way more comfortable and useful than the wimpy original.
Everything original is retained, with exception of the original pad.
