I had a CEL come on the other day. Nothing seems off, still running strong.

I ran techstream and there were some old codes in the history, 2 codes associated with a faulty key in the history (probably dating back to the previous owner) and two sets of current codes. One regarding TPMS and one set regarding the telescoping steering wheel.

I just had my tires replaced so I figured that was the issue with the TPMS. Now it's reading all pressures just fine. The steering wheel goes up and own but not in and out, doesn't bother me but it's where the code came from.

I cleared the codes and though the CEL would go out but it's still up. I turned off the car, left it off for a few minutes, powered it up and the light is still on. After running the check again there are no codes but there is one orange row regarding Engine and ETC. The only thing is says is "Inc" under Monitor Status.

Any ideas?

I removed the negative battery post for a minute and I have the same issue. I've attached some images of the techstream output. Can anyone out there with more experience help me get back on the path?

Did you double click on "Engine and ECT" to drill down!
Sometimes those mini VCI cables drive me nuts. They get buggy. Fire up computer (CPU), plug into CPU & vehicle, open TIS (don't allow online), turn on key and start, click find vehicle (watch to make sure it finds your model). Run full scan again.

I back up with a OBDII reader.

BTW: You need to disconnect battery for 20 minutes minimum to reset ECM.

The first 3 images are clicking down the "Engine and ETC" tree, they are in reverse order.

I'll follow that procedure and try again.

I don't have scanner, but I have a bluetooth OBDII module and Torque Pro, is that sufficient? If so, I'll check it tonight when I get home.

Yes, I use my bluetooth OBD, to check for DTC all the time.

Checked with OBD, no faults. Disconnected battery for an hour. CEL is still on. Really odd.

To be clear this is not the "Maintenance light" but the CEL!

That is odd. You could try a parts store, see if the read a DTC. Next step may be to have Toyota/Lexus Dealership change oil or some cheap special, they may check for free while in shop.

So, i've noticed before that techstream + mini VCI cable does seem to pull up hard set codes, but it has previously missed some "pending" codes (or whatever exactly they are called) that my old-school OBDII reader has caught. Lesson I learned was to carry an OBDII reader for the basics as well as techstream for the nitty-gritty stuff. Now, I'm also going to throw some question into that logic, because I always thought that the "soft" codes wouldn't set a CEL. Anyway, try a regular code reader and see what you get.

I've always been in 'system select' to read codes. IT takes a while to read all the ecus for codes. You can check them individually also. But not in live data, stored data might not show current codes. HAve you not seen the screen where it goes through checking all ecus, maybe 18 of them I think? That's where I start every time. You don't have to run the car while this is going on.

When you click the erase button in the lower right of the screen that shows the actual P or C or D code whatever, the combo meter light will immediately go out unless you have multiple from different ecus, maybe there is a clear all button. idk.

It's not clear if you're trying to do that from live data, or even stored data.
