The lx has the nav with the cd/dvd changer. however even the regular (non computer) audio cd's are skipping. I took it to the dealer and they said they couldn't duplicate the problem. i took it again when i could reproduce the problem and the tech. said it was due to the scratch on the cd. the same exact cd works in any other cd player !
I would like to know if this is a known issue with the lx/lc dvd/cd changers. and if so what's the solution.
thnx.

i was told that the changer our our MY02 LX was weak spot. ours has been replaced twice (IIRC). the problems include not ejecting the cartridge, not reading a cd and to a lesser extent... skipping. the first two problems required unit replacement.

the levinson system sounds wonderful, when it's working, but just sucks in terms of reliability. that includes the subwoofer, radio tuner and the changer. right now the audio cuts on out one radio station at fixed intervals. one station only and about one second every ten. all signal just drops out.

best of luck.

i am curious to find out if there is a way to plug in an aftermarket cd player that can be controlled using the factory headunit...

Bummer. Based on my and other's experiences just have an Eclipse deck installed or install it yourself...they start around $300.00 or so. FYI: My '99 LC head unit was really selective regarding which CDs it would play. If I actually got it to play a cd once it would not play that cd again. It would just kick them back out and switch over to FM...

FYI: The Eclipse units come with a 3-year warranty and that includes theft protection too! If the deck is ever stolen Eclipse, in writing, will replace the deck!

that's all nice, but the lx has the seperate cd changer, and given it's the cd changer that's acting up i want to only replace that and keep the rest of the system stock.

Makes sense...I didn't realize the LX was different, in that respect, than the LC...

My bet is that the CD Changer is made by some well known manufacturer (i.e. Nakamichi, Kenwood, Sony, Eclipse.... something).

I'd fxxx your dealership and take it to a car audio shop and have them look at it.

A few more questions, though.

Does it only skip on this one particular disc, or does it happen on almost all of them? If it's just one disc, your tech could be right. Some car stereo CD players, even high end ones, are a bit more finnicky on scratches than even a basic home CD player.

well it's more a problem with the lex dealers than the car itself. every car has issues but they just need to be fixed.
