Hi guys,

I've looked through a number of threads about mounting cb antenna's tp the front of the vehicle. I'm trying to find some good pics of the wire routing through the firewall into the car. I've read that you can wire it through an existing harness and I think I see which one it is. But it would be nice to see some pics both from the firewall perspective and also from inside the car to see where the wire will come through.

If anyone has a link with some pics, please share...

Thanks much

There is a big harness package on the passenger side of the engine compartment. It will be under the AHC resevoir if equipped.

Either side of the firewall there are large grommets for you to route wires or cables through. It's dark now but I can take a pic tomorrow if needed.

Gently pry out a corner of the whichever one you wish to use and use a long screw driver or something to maintain the hole while you route your wires though. Altrenativley you can punch a hole in the existing grommet or make your own hole and seal it with a grommet.

Yeah, pics would be great.

On the inside of the car, is it obvious where the wire is coming in? Or do you have to remove parts of the dash or glove box or whatever to pull it through?

Thanks

On the drivers side the entry point is accessible from the engine bay and the foot well without taking things apart. The passenger side however has some obstructions that make it more difficult to access.

The attached pictures show entry from the drivers side engine bay next to the brake booster and exit into the drivers side foot well. While this is not an antenna lead the power wires for my iCom 2730 are larger in total diameter and had a similar in size, to a PL259 antenna female connector, plastic electrical connector attached when I routed the wires trough the firewall.

The passenger side is very easy. Are you passing just the cable or cable already w connector?

Cable w connector may be better off making a new hole. Good place is corner on right side all the way close to floor and firewall.

If you passing just the cable:
There is a very large harness going into the cab, comes out easy and simple to punch a hole through it's rubber grommet to pass a cable while maintaining a good seal there. You DO NOT want to just pest any grommet aside and have the cable riding on the metal, it will cut and short it.
When you push that grommet out of the way just a bit you have a straight shot in between all the electronics behind the glove box. All you need to do is drop the glovebox door down and remove the trim panel behind it, there will be a couple wires connected to it, unplug them.

Get yourself a metal rod about 3/16 thick and 25" to 30" long, I have a brass one saved for routing things like this.
Pass the cable through the punched hole in the rubber.
Tape the end of the cable to the end of the rod.
Gently push your rod towards the inside until it goes all the way past computer and other junk.
Remove tape and remove rod. put things back where they belong, including the rubber grommet.
While doing this it's good to have lots of light so you can see through and inside the dash mess, that way you'll make sure to go straight and not punch anything.

Sounds complicated but it is very simple and straight forward!

You can see the big harness with some added wires going into the rubber in this pic. It is on the passenger side bellow the wiper motor.

Here I'm pointing straight to where the hole is and where you would see the rod coming through with your wires.
Hope it helps.

I don't mean any disrespect here but I'm pointing it out. This is exactly what you DON'T want to do. Push the grommet aside, put the wires in between the rubber and sheet metal, risk a short on the wires maybe even a fire, create an air leak from the engine bay into the cab.
Again, no offense intended but not a good way to do it.

That's great, thanks for all the pics and details. I'm going to just pass the wire and attach the connector after.

Thanks again

I ran the coax on the PS. If you end up making a bigger hole, just grab some spray foam insulation (pro tip) to fill the gaps and when it dries it is good to go.
