With all the rain going on I figure it was time to make a build thread on my lx450, Casper. Funny enough I found this lx a few years ago sitting in salvage yard...waiting for it’s time.

I was there looking for some datsun parts..and figured why I was there I’d just take a picture of it. Well fast forward around 2 years later, I had the itch to get into a locked 80 series. After searching online for one, it was quite apparent these things Hold their value well. Really I knew exactly what I wanted in my mind, was a 96 (year I was born), locked, lx450 in white. I totally forgot about this white Lexus I seen a few years back..and doubted it was still there. I honestly didn’t know anything about this Vehicle other then it needed work and it was a white Lexus haha. So I decided that I’d give the old man a call that had it and see if it was still around. Sure enough he still had it...sitting in the same spot as before. I asked how much he wanted for it...he thought for a second and said, I’d probably get $400 for scrap, so bring me $500. Well I’m sure you can guess I was sold, and made the 2 hour drive that weekend to pick it up.

To be completely honest, the original reason I bought the vehicle was For the frame and axles, for my recently acquired fj60. On the phone the guy told me he didn’t have a title for it..so I knew it was going to be parts only. I was praying that it had lockers..but they were rare to find on the lx450...so doubted that i would get lucky. When I arrived, he had the lx out in the open to load on the trailer. When I opened the door...what do you know, it had lockers, haha! I was smiling from ear to ear....but to make matters even better, when I glanced at the dash, there sat the title! It was now official, I owned a white 1996 lx450, with factory lockers!!

once I got back home I started going through all the stuff inside. I opened the glove box and what do you know, there sat the damn window sticker haha! It confirmed the fact that this vehicle had basically every option you could buy! So as you could imagine I was thrilled. The lx went from being only used for parts, to now going to be my daily driver.

About 8 months ago I bought a 2019 Colorado zr2 diesel...I really loved that truck, and it did everything I wanted. However, me and my wife are getting ready to build a house, and that $600 truck payment comes once a month if you know what I mean! So unfortunately I decided to sell my zr2, but decided I’d take some of the money I got back and put towards building the Lexus to be the new daily!

It sucked to sell that truck, but man it was fun spending 10k on parts over a month period haha!

So first things first, this Lexus was 24 years old, had 260k miles, had a blown engine, and had been sitting since 2008. This thing needed a lot of love!! First thing we did was hit the outside with a pressure washer, as it had like a inch of moss growing on it!

here you can see the factory window sticker. Just over $51,000 back in 1996...that is a lot of money!

Here is what’s left of the engine compartment...you can see the pulled the head due to what i giess was a head gasket failure. It sat like this for many years until I brought it home!

The rest of the vehicle is packed into the rear trunk area haha. There is alittle of everything back here!

You can see the interior is actually in decent shape for its mileage. Most I see have ripped seats and beat all to hell. The front seats are in good shape, rear isn’t the best unfortunately. I’ll buy new covers from them later down the road!

Looks like a pretty nice truck after sitting in the junkyard for years. What motor are you planning to install? How are you going to modify the drivetrain to that much horsepower?

Typing all this out sucks lol...but I haven’t quite gotten that far along in the build yet. I’ll try to add more today. But basically it’s getting a built 6.0 ls 4l80e swap., I had a hard time getting info on this from one place, so I’m going to try and include as much info in this as possible for people swapping later down the road!

That is a nice find.

What an amazing junk yard find! The exterior had grime, but was in great shape. The interior even looks to be in great shape. Look at those seats. I'm glad it ended up with someone who was determined to bring it back to being road worthy.

Any updates? Also I thought your first picture was how the truck sat when you bought it for $500 and was like WTH?!?! But then I saw the true junkyard picture and things made more sense. Hope you're still plugging away. I'm in the middle of a 6.0 swap myself

Looked around good and from expectations
So he decided he'd take it in a different direction.

Definitely not a Children’s Story.

Thanks, I switched over and read that thread. And I thought my swap was complicated...Yikes
