There is a trailer that looks similar down the road. They made what looks like a long "h" and bolted it to the studs from the outside, the crossbar sat just above the roof. Im sure it was used a ladder rack, but it looks like it would work to add a RTT. Maybe I need to take a pic since my description sucks!

I DON"T WANT A RRT!
I don't want to pay for a RTT.
I don't want to have to set-up and break down a RTT.
I don't want to sleep on the roof.
I don't want to sleep in a tent.

I won't be sleeping with my Swampers - they will be out of the trailer when I sleep.

(Didn't I cover all of this earlier in this thread?) ;-)

good luck with the build

A rack of some sort may still come on handy for something that is too long, or you just dont want put it inside. Just thinking out loud.

Are you sure?

Teardrops & Tiny Travel Trailers :: View topic - Enclosed 5x8 > Cargo/Camper build

Long overdue report: it worked great. I stayed up off the ground. Slept on a foam mattress on a flat solid platform. I have enough room to "set-up" for sleeping & changing. I could lock it up to keep valuables etc safe. Plenty of ventilation too with a 12v fan in one window.

Very nice.

Still need to flesh out some "permanent" 12v lighting and a few bells and whistles but it is working great for now.

Cool idea, similiar to probably alot of others. I guess laying the tires flat, and stacking, 2 deep and a sleeping platform above? In my idea, I dont' want to have to unload the trailer to sleep, especially if I'm travelling and just stopping on the side of the road. But using the enclosed trailer is brilliant and security is great, until you leave stuff outside to sleep. IMO, but i'm curious to see where you go with this, cause I'm right behind you.

I just visited Safari in Grand Junction today, they have cool LED lights, some solar power stuff. Check it out!

I agree with the idea of sleeping in the trailer on the road... I would more likely put the platform down the middle between the tires rather than laying the tires down. In that case I'd probably make a fabric cover for the tires to keep the sleeping area cleaner.

If you lay the tires down they would get pretty tall pretty quickly (2 x 12"). The storage containers would be lower - allowing more head room when in sleeping mode. (see the diagrams earlier in this thread.)

As far as security of the tires out of the trailer I typically run a long wire rope cable with a lock through the 5 wheels and around a tree. Not fool proof but will discourage the casual prankster or thief.
