I have contacted a private individual regarding his 200 LX for sale. He sent me a link for the Carfax but I am unable to open it:
2013 LEXUS LX 570
VIN JTJHY7AX7D4098536
Qualifies for CARFAX Buyback Guarantee¹
*This link will expire on 06/08/2018

Could this be due to the fast that I am located outside the USA?

OK, now I have a question: Do you think such a Carfax makes the LX worth considering?

I am a little disturbed by the fact that the vehicle has 3 previous owners. What made them not happy with the truck? Being the 4th owner scares me a little.

Personally I'd pass w/ the so-so service records too. I mean unless you're getting a screaming deal, otherwise like you, no one is going to want to be the 5th, 6th owner... etc... not that you'd ever sell your Cruiser  but there's big value having a 1 to 2 owner vs the truck that seemed like no one loved it.

You may have better luck establishing a relationship with an exporter and letting them vet the vehicles.

Much obliged, @grinchy and @mripper:) Your advice is extremely useful to someone like me, who is totally inexperienced of the US used market scene.

So far I have bought all my preowned cars in Europe, where I've had positive experience buying direct from owners, and never from dealerships. My problem at present is the almost total lack of used Lexus LX vehicles on this side of the Atlantic. I am not able to afford a new one, so my only two options are the Middle East and the USA. Both places are ridden with... lack of trust - in one way or another. Funny enough, I don't trust the gulf state's private sellers, and the US private sellers don'd seem to trust me - coming from an ex-commie (pun intended:rofl:) country.

Another of my problems is that I am 72 years old, with a highest technical achievement of changing a light bulb:bang:. Therefore, my goal is to acquire a technically mint vehicle with the prospect of carefree use for at least a couple of years ahead. After considerable efforts on my part, I've managed to convince She Who Must Be Obeyed to splash on a 2013 LX570. Unfortunately, our utmost financial limit is 40 000,- all inclusive sale price, as I have to pay additionally considerable shipping costs and a hefty import tax in my country. It would be great if anyone here on Mud will will be willing to help out in my search for a mint 2013 LX. I've narrowed it down to this particular year/model as prefer as newer a model as I can afford, with as few miles on the ODO as possible. Purely for health reasons I would consider only vehicles with AHC, therefore I'm not interested in LC's, which I can find in Europe anyway.

Thanks in advance:)

@kolyo, there isn't a huge difference in features between the years. It may be blasphemy to say that, and plenty will disagree, but the suspension, engine, and seats are the same in all years. You'll be plenty comfortable in any LX570. 2013 is difficult as it's too old to find a toyota pre-certified probably, which would be one way to assist with your seller problem.

As far as pricing, there isn't a large gap private party to a dealer. You may have better luck for your use case with dealers.

The other vendors that come to mind that might be able to work with you are some of the larger eBay based Texas vendors, or the virtual dealerships, like Vroom and Carvana.

Beware cars that have lived their whole life in Allentown, PA. There is likely to be undercarriage rust. Aim for Florida, states that border FL, or AZ, CA, Texas, New Mexico.

@grinchy, it's quite reassuring when someone is making a sustained effort to help a fellow LX/LC lover from so far away - the other side of the world in fact:). A great place, MUD, isn't it!

Your advice on rust is very appreciated. My present 100 LC came from Switzerland, a country with considerable snow and ice for many months of the year. Nevertheless, the guy I bought the truck from had taken precautions against rust by applying a special tar like substance professionally. Is such a measure common in the the US snow belt states?

It isn't common, no. You'll have to get pictures and decide what level of rust/risk you're comfortable with. The issue isn't so much the running of the vehicle (in the short and mid term), it's maintenance and upgrades. If every bolt snaps off due to corrosion/rusting in place while performing routine things, then everything costs more (in time and effort), until you replace them all.

The Lexus owners site that mripper mentioned is your best source for service history. There are plenty of dealerships that can and/will export the lx for you. I think someone else mentioned that you should obtain a exporter and/or broker. I would have to agree (usually charge about 1500 dollars) I just picked purchased and picked a lx from fl. It was one you mentioned in another thread.

I think you have a realistic budget. But you have to figure what flaws can live with and/or deal with.

Car sales in general are not typically looking out for your interest. They can send you million photos and/or videos but will leave out the some of the cosmetic flaws.

@kolyo I did have my prospective purchase romote inspected. They did OK. Got all the obvious stuff, missed the subtle things. I used lemonsquad.

@grinchy, sorry I did't quite get the meaning of "lemonsquad". What is it?

EDIT: Just checked it out on Internet. Do you think their service is worth it? How much did they charge you?

I've sent you a PM.

I paid 125 dollars to a Toyota dealership for pre inspection. It was across the street from the dealership. I also contacted the previous Lexus it was serviced at. I spoke to a service advisor to determine if they had any notes for anything that stood out.
