I'm reinstalling my re-rebuilt D40 carburetor, but I don't know if there is a specific torque setting for the carb to intake bolts? or is snug and even the way to go?

Snug with a box end wrench is all I've ever done. X pattern and repeat till snug.

What bikersmurf said..............

nothing to add...but I love your sig line!

Those carb mounting studs have a troubling way of pulling out of the aluminum manifold if too much oomph is applied to the mounting nuts.
Snug means not too tight; too tight pulls the studs up - be careful about it.

Yes ! I can Amen to that - trying to figure out what I'm going to do with the stud I over tightend and weather I should put in a helicoil

Aftermarket manual says 8-11 ft/lbs which is about right for a 8mm 1.25 thread bolt into steel. Into an aluminum manifold? Keep it on the low side. Does anybody use a torque wrench on carb flange nuts. Nope.

I had to put in a helicoil on one of mine. I tried different types of lock tite first but none of that worked. Easy job, just tape over the manifold so you don't drop anything down there!

Thanks guy's snug and even it was. Appreciate the help!

What you've all missed is that the D40 is a 1bbl carb. It either goes on a cast iron intake, or to a steel plate adapter above an aluminum manifold. And the studs are 10mm, not 8.
