To start off, does anyone have an early, single bbl asian carb for an "F" lying around?

I'm guessing I'm having trouble with my carb, and not sure how to proceed. A couple weeks ago, someone posted a similar problem, so I have an idea what's going on, but not sure how to solve the problem.

Engine idles just fine. But, when I press down on the accelerator, either in the cab, or manually under the hood, the engine wants to stall, and will stall if I don't completely back off the accelerator. Once I coax the engine above 1100 RPM, and I accelerate further, the problem doesn't seem to be there. Only when it's idling (below 800 RPM).

I think someone posted that it's a bad accelerator pump?

Anyway, I just had the carb... a Rochester Carb... rebuilt. I called my carb guy about this issue, and he said, as long as I can see gas being injected into the carb when I press the linkage (which it is), the carb is working just fine.

The only solution I can come up with is replacing the carb, but I want to make sure before I fork over the $$$ for a new carb.

Any idea's?

I just went through a carb rebuild and was told to check the accelerator pump by turning the key on and listening for the pump to click. I also could put my hand on the pump and feel it click, by this I was told my problem wasn't the pump. You may want to try that then you can confirm that the pump is working or not.
Good luck

Did you check your fuel filter?

Are you talking about the fuel pump?
I think the accelerator pump is actually located in the carb itself and attached to the linkage. But, then again, I have no idea what I'm talking about. :)

I think he's talking about the fuel cutoff solenoid. If it's not working your truck will not idle. Sounds like you have a different problem.

Sorry, I was talking about the solenoid valve but as was mentioned, this effect the idle not acceleration.

I think I have the same problem on my 78 - though mine does not seem as bad as yours sounds. I can baby it around until it warms up and it's not too bad. Just a little initial stumble. When I work the throttle under the hood - I don't seem to have the usual strong squirt of gas at the carb. I've got so many other things I've been working on I haven't gotten around to pulling the carburetor yet, but I've ordered a new gasket and the little pump thingy (tech talk :)) from Toyota. This is all after a tuneup and adjustment of course.

Could also be a plugged transition slot. Try removing the idle mixture screw and spraying inside the hole alternately with carb cleaner spray and compressed air. This gets its fuel from the idle circuit, so that could also be partially plugged. Try the "Oklahoma" rebuild to unplug it.

Kablam, you said you had a Rochester carb right. While most carbs are the same, the fixes people are posting for stock carbs probably will not apply.

If you just got it rebuilt, I would think the carb is fine. Even a very worn carb will still operate pretty good after a rebuild. Have you checked timing? Points? Plugs? Also, has it sat long, not running, fuel filter could be plugged again. Did it run very well before? Could simply be out of adjustment still, improper jets, etc...

Sorry Pin_Head!

Thought it was a joke... like "Chinese Fire Drill" :)

Thanks for the post!

I had the same exact problem with my 40....ended up being the ignition module. Mine was a DUI though. Im not sure if it applies to your rig but dont rule out the ingition system since, like MoCo said , your carb was just rebuilt.
