I rebuilt my own... there is alot of things to do... but if you follow the FSM you should be ok... but if you are at all worried about it give either of those guys a call... I have read lots of stuff about both

I have a rebuilt carb from a 78 FJ40. It was rebuilt to start an engine that had been sitting for some time. PM me for details.

2F new carb

The headers are "Pacemaker" brand

Well I busted my left one during my lunch break today, to get the thing finished to start her up.

The verdict... :D :D :D

Prior, I was running a reco stock carb, fully stock rebuilt motor less than 500k ago, new stock dizzy (points set up). (evrything mechanical is new) It took around 5 seconds to start, would idle a little lumpy, and had a flat spot whenever I accelerated hard from idle. (really pissed me off)

Since then Ive added:

New carb / diff sized insulator plate to suit, new fuel pump to suit, petronix kit, fuel pump, fuel lines.

Two squirts of the throttle, and it starts in half the time, idles lumpy yet smoother, and the flat spot is gone! (I have not driven it under load as my seat frames are not finished!!

I havent tuned the thing, only added the above items straight from the box, and to be honest, its a BIG improvment.

Hello, all, need carb advice? I am restoring a 78 FJ40, and wondering what to do with the carb? The motor is rebuilt and have seen places to get my old one rebuilt for $300ish. If I go that route any suggestions on where? CCOT? SOR? Other? If new, which I might really be more interested in, where, every where I talk to say no dice? Can you even get a new stock carb or only aftermarket? Really want to stay stock to keep all emissions and air cleaner assembly parts as is.
The 1978 carbs are all long discontinued from Toyota. Last I checked the only 2F numbers still available were 81-87, and something weird, like 1977 Cali-spec FJ55.

There are new China carbs being sold by Nardek, but I am not keen on the idea of putting china junk on a Cruiser. also, Nardek has no USA smog legal stuff. They do offer carbs, dissys and carb kits for world-spec cruisers.

Don't be afraid to get the stock carb rebuilt by someone who knows them. the carbs themselves don't wear out. The throttle bodies (the only part that moves) are made of tool steel and cast iron, as a Cruiser should be.
