I have 71 40 with an f motor and a 32/36 weber. I runs fine the problem is after it sits a day or two it's very hard to start. I have to crank on it for probably a minute before it gets gas. Why is it loosing all the fuel out of the carb when sitting. The carb is not leaking, the fuel seems to be going back down the fuel line. If I drive it every day this is not a problem, only after sitting a couple of days. Is it the float or jetting or adjustment? I don't know where to start.

You are pumping the accelerator I presume?

My 38/38 does this as well. Not sure why. But does not bother me much. Might be a Weber thing. Sure is a great trouble free carb though. (once I got it tuned anyway) I know you aisan guys will hate that. Later, Dan.

A bad diaphragm in the fuel pump(or a bad valve in same) will allow fuel to drain back into the tank, especially if you are parked with the front end uphill.

Yes, I have to pump the gas for probably a minute.

I didn't do this with the stock carb, but is now doing it with the Weber. I'm sure a lot of guys will say, see you should have stayed with the stock carb. But other than the hard starting I love the Weber carb. Well maybe its just a coincidence, I will have to try another fuel pump.

Do you have an electric choke or manual?

Ditto

I have a manual fuel pump.

Sorry for the highjack but have replaced fuel pump twice. Thought the same thing with the diaphram. Still does it.
