After knocking on most of the underside, and messing with the shocks for play, I can't for the life of me find this rattle that occurs on any bump that really tests the suspension. Is there anyone in Denver, CO that would be willing to take a look at this thing with me over some beers? I just dropped a ton of money into having the front end rebuilt, now this. I hope it's something I could tackle myself.

Did you replace the sway bar bushings. If there is any slop in either of the two middle bushings, it will make a nice knocking sound. Pretty loud for how small the problem really is. Replacing all the rubber parts are pretty cheap. You want to get some of the hardware too because they are usually rusted up. CDan has the stuff and helped me get everything he predicted I needed.

A couple thoughts though we'll need a bit more description, otherwise we're really just guessing.

  • Check the exhaust, if its original some of the mounts could have gone and that will create quite a rattle.
  • The front sway bar bushings may be worn, but that is usually more of a clunk than a rattle.
Other than that it could be a number of things, any other details you could provide would be helpful.

I agree on the swaybar bushings. Sometimes the boot leaks and the bushing/bolt that holds the blocks in the middle of the swaybar rattle at the frame

Another vote for sway bar. Grab it and give it a good shake. Bushing are toast on mine where it joins the axle. More of a clunk as was said before. My truck only has 133k but it is lifted and has been wheeled by me and the PO.
